When to flower this weed of an AK-48.

So my first grow has been going quite smoothly, the learning curve in this hobby is pretty steep but I'm enjoying every step.

My AK-48's are excelling ahead of all of the bagseed Nirvana gave me for free, but they'll be using my grow room exclusively when the bagseed plants move to a friend's house.

ANYWAY.

This plant is 29 days old and just over 18 inches tall. This is a picture I took 2 days ago before repotting into a 3 gallon bucket, it's grown about an inch since. I didn't top these plants because most people told me just growing the damn plant is a good idea for your first grow :P

This is the actual question;
I can afford for these plants to get maybe 1 foot taller. When should I make the switch to 12/12 and start flowering these things? I have absolutely no idea what to expect as far as height increase during flowering. I know size increases anywhere from 2 to 4x, but height?

Would love some input guys and gals, cheers! :peace:

Sorry man, I should have mentioned, these are feminized. They've already shown female preflowers.

And thank you very much for the compliment =)

Yeah will do, thank you for the tip man I needed that.

I might be able to make accommodations for extra height it will just require a multitude of additional work. Nothing I can't handle! I'll get these babies into flower right away and just take it as it goes.

oh and AK48 is the smelliest ganja on earth in flowering. fair warning given.
Heard the same form a lot of people, I'm going to have to get some intense carbon filtration happening and probably a vent blowing outside with yet another carbon filter. All in due time for sure.

Luckily my grow doesn't need to be concealed. Family is just going to have to deal with the smell until I can get some filtration happening.

If anyone is still reading this and knows the answer; If I flower one of my AK-48's but (painstakingly) harvest without chopping the plant, is it perfectly viable as a mother plant if rejuvenated?

I topped my AK-48 and it went to 36" and created these beautiful colas, 8 of them, 3 really big and the rest average. . I would recommend topping, especially if you have height constraints.

I would top that beast, give it a few days to recover and then switch to flower. Some say a week or more to recover before flowering, but I feel that varies dramatically, each plant takes to topping slightly different. Mine showed no noticeable stress after FIMing.

Well I am on about my 3rd harvest of this evil species. Your plant looks great but like the other folks say it way past due to put into flower especially considering you aint got but a foot to grow. Best bet would be to top the snot out of it and let it continue to veg for a week or two or when it fills back out looking like the one in the pic only shorter. Then switch to 12/12. It has struck me as not being an overly tall growing plant but near all of them will double to triple in size seems like I read that somewhere. Now I have tried to re veg harvested mothers a few times and it hasnt worked very well. Grow before last I just got tired looking at them do nothing so I chunked them. On this grow I am trying two which went back to veg for at least a month and look about like they did when I moved them to veg. I am putting them in flower now just to see what will happen. May get a little bud. Who knows? Now I am having a little problem on this upcoming harvest. I will post it as a question on another thread if I can figure out how to do that.

hey monkey, you leave out the important details, but that really doesn't matter. 18" tall with a thousand watt light is about 6" too late. plants can easily double (or more) in height in flower. you do have one thing going for you though. you transplanted into a container that will limit root-mass. this in itself, will limit growth above ground. you don't want your plants outgrowing your light wattage. even a 1000 watter will only penetrate so far into the canopy. if you have a 4 foot tall plant, and a light that only penetrates 12" into the canopy, you're wasting a lot of lgiht/energy.

Thank you very much for the replies friends.

I put all 5 of my ladies into a 12/12 cycle under my 400W hps. I think with some minor reconstruction my closet will provide an easy 2+ more feet of height for these things. Worst comes to worse there's room for them outside.

Topping mostly frightens me because I do not know how well the plant would recover its colas if it were thrown into flowering so soon after the topping, which seems imminent. I also think at this point I prefer vertical crowding to horizontal.

I am going to attempt and remove a 2 or 3 clones to give to one or two friends and grow one or two mothers for future harvests. Gotta get some cloning gel tomorrow. Topping will become a theme in my grow room from now on ;)

Two cents appreciated.

hey monkey, instead of topping, think about tying down instead. topping "will" slow things down, whereas tying down will accomplish the same as topping minus the slowdown for the most part. if you're determined to top, you may want consider doing a fim instead.

This plant has been flowering for just over a month now. She's over 43 inches tall, but as I said earlier in this thread, I was able to accommodate for the excessive vertical growth and I'm thanking myself for it now. They've got about 60 inches of vertical space to grow in now and are loving it :)

Here are a couple snaps of the main cola at 35 days into 12/12 in case anybody is interested. Link to the entire grow is available in my signature.
