When to cut down?

I have read that you are supposed to chop when trichomes are say half amber n half cloudy (depending on what ur going for) so that the cloudy ones will catch up during cure. I always thought that meant when u look at a scope n see some amber n some cloudy next to each other in the same area but now I wonder if that means the top buds are ALL amber n bottoms all cloudy. I hope somebody understands what I'm asking because I know I didnt word it great lol.

It is normal for upper buds to develop more than lowers
I go by top buds because I bin the lower ones

Cloudy on the actual buds is close enough
Full amber would put you to sleep

I know people like to focus on trichomes because it seems more "scientific" but it's really just one small part of the picture. Here is a good post explaining what else to look for.
