When should I flower my plants? I'm thinking of transplanting them first. Bad idea?

Hello all,

I'm getting ready to flower my girls - I'm aiming for April 1st or so. But I was considering transplanting them into larger pots first to encourage them to get a bit larger.

Or should I just stick with what I've got?

I was definitely considering doing just that.

Although I don't have pots that size. I was going to go 1g. Or should I really get the larger pots? Will too large a pot distract it while it regrows roots just before flowering?

larger plants need larger pots

120 gram and under plant .......should be in a 3 gallon soil bag at least ......3 gallons hold less then half a gallon of water
121 gram plant and up ...should be in a 5 or 7 gallon soil bag ...........7 gallons will take a whole gallon of water/ 5 gallon just shy of a whole gallon

u want the plants in a bigger pots so they have access to the water and feed they need to blow up and get dense .......1 gallon pots u are looking at a max of 21 grams a plant

Grow in the largest pots for your grow space , also square pots take less room.
3 gallons are a good size .

no chart that i know of.....the info is from my own personal growings for the last 3 years
strains that are 120 grams under i used a 3 gallon and 5 gallon pot i sawl no different in the returns from a 3 gallon or 5 gallon so the 3 gallon is just fine for the 120 grams and under
the larger ones 120 plus (300 400 600 gram plants) ....i tried those in 3 gallons and they never did well the 5 gallons they were fairly nice avg 7/8 ozs a plant but the 7 gallons it got me to 10 oz avg

i been increasing the amounts i make from the soil mix and feeding mix ........i am still learning to max the plants out

but the amount of water the plant has access to and feed are directly linked to what they return ( DWC/hydro does the best due to this fact)

Very interesting.

5 gallon pots are expensive, so I got some buckets that are approximately the same size until I can find some bigger pots on sale somewhere.

So, I asked my mother (who is a horticulturalist) about moving into the larger ports, and she said it's dangerous to move them into too-large a pot as it encourages root rot. What do you guys think?

she is right about that in the old plastic pots .........those fabric pots are a different beast

they are designed to Air prune the roots (root rot comes from to much water and the wrong micros in the soil) u never have to worry about that with the soil bags ( since it is fabric the soil breaths and releases water )

u know what man .......get your mom a bag or 2 for her plants ......let her try out the new pot designs (she will love them)

over watering is pratically impossible ........soil will only retain so much water after thatit leaks out everywhere sides bottom everywhere ( the old plastic/clay ones had vents at the bottom but they could get clogged then the water does not drain out pools up at the bottom causing massive issuse) ..........this makes flushing them so easy (u flush the soil before u harvest when u are using chemical feeds .....they will leave a funny taste to the smoke unless u remove the salt build up)

Thanks for the tips... I can't afford the bags just yet, but I'll spring for them the next time I can afford it :)

yah but it will last a grow maybe 3 before that ........by then u have real ones .....plus what are u going to do with it any ways other then movie screen for outside

if u use sheets i would do a 2 layer thing if the pillow cases good to go .........i use a old jug i cut part of away fill it up and add a scoop that is 1 gallon of soil ....big plants use 6/7 gallons of soil smaller ones 3 gallons
