When does flowering week one start?

My question is simple.

What do you consider day 1 of flowering to be?
Is day one of flowering when you see your very first pistils? --> View attachment 2297819

Is it when you have a good amount of them but not yet forming buds? -->t_cssbit.jpg

Or is it when the plant stop growing taller and your flowers start to fill out a bit? -->pot_anenome_tiny.jpg

** I know strains and the time you let your plant veg all has things to do with this..but generally speaking. **

Day 1 of flowering is when your plant gets 12 hours uninterrupted dark for the first night cycle. Most of the time this is before you see any pistils forming, although some plants show preflowers around 4-5 weeks vegging.

What about outdoors? Mine have been flowering for about 2 weeks now, but there only getting around 10 hours of darkness.

And looking up the info...12/12 where I am starts around Sept. 26. That only gives me about 4 weeks of true 12/12 before it will get to cold.

mmmm, outdoors is a whole different story bro. Environment has a VERY big impact outside on when your buds ripe completely, that's why some seed companies will tell you "Strain A" outside flowering time in a certain latitude/longitude is around the end of September, but further north it may take 2-3 weeks longer than normal.

I'm just trying to take some notes on my grow, and wanted to know when I should count day 1 of flowering is, so what your saying is flowering might have started a week before I really started seeing any pistils...or should I just take the first signs of pistils as day one???

Thanks you for replying

outdoors If you are near august and see pistils, i would count from there. also, the first half hour(sunrise) and the last (sunset) should be taken into consideration outdoors because its not truly light. so the start of flower is like mid august

Day 1 of flowering is usually about 6-10 days after you switch to 12-12...outdoors same thing...6-10 days after the plant receives the signal that days are getting shorter and nights longer...this is around august 8-12 in my area.. we don't get a true 12-12 until october around here and plants are finishing by then.

Thanks everyone...all great info and ill add it into my notes. Two of my plants look about a week into flowering, but my big one (6+ feet tall) it just doesn't seem to want to start flowers. It has some pistils on its branches, but the top keeps growing. I'm happy that its so big, but a little worried that it will finish in time.

nah she should be fine..the more sativa in the genetics the slower it is to react to the light change...finishing us not usually a problem...usually do not get a hard frost until early - mid november...they just stand out too much from the native plants in october and november when they are thriving and everything is dormant around them.

As corso312 eluded to, the time your plant starts going into bud is strain dependant.
