I am prepping a area outside, making a new flower bed.

Approx how deep do you dig the holes to put your "super soil" in?

I'm about 1 ft deep so far, the space is about 3ftx10ft

I want the plants no taller than 5-6ft tall by harvest

If you want to grow MONSTER plants don't be lazy and cut yourself short, dig that bitch down to about 2 feet. 18-20" will be OK but 24" is ideal. It's hard work but you'll thank me come October.

And it looks like I'll need to grab more soil, I have 2 bags of roots organic and 1 compost and two worm castings... guess I will need to go buy more roots

What I do is lay out a little tarp next to my hole, dig the top soil out and lay that on the tarp, eventually you will reach clay. Keep on digging and toss the god damn clay over your back or where ever, just scatter it around or someone might see that fresh pile of dirt on the ground. Once you get down far enough about knee deep or so (bout 2 foot) you're ready. Take your bought soil, soil amendments and that top soil on your tarp and mix it all together then throw that shit back in the hole.Nothing wrong with using a little native soil unless it's garbage from being strip mined in the past. Come back in two weeks and plant your plant. Don't plant it the day you dig your hole or you will be sorry. Some little critter will come by and dig your shit up and you will be EXTREMELY pissed off.

Some of the holes they drilled where I work were 36" inches across and 40 foot deep. We had to pin plywood over them cuz if someone fell down in there you're dead. Especially if was half full of water. It's scary looking down in a hole that deep.
