When are Clone Attempts Clearly Dead?

Just out of curiosity, since I'm cloning for the first time, how long generally does it take a clipping of the mother plant to die if it does not take root? I'm looking at these clippings (hopefully I can get pics soon) and am curious if they would remain green and upright after three or four days if the rooting hormone was not helping establish roots?

I,ve had clones take 2 weeks to root before, they will start turning yellow but as long as there is some green leave them. What method of cloning are you trying?

all depends, the more green on the clone the better, without a root system the plant will depend on its leaves for nutrient intake so u might want to mist them. unless roots develope it want last very long. I use peat-moss for cloning which helps establish roots fast.

I picked up a simple, common rooting hormone at Lowe's and am using a medium comprised mostly of peat moss, manure, and vermiculite, which is my organic seeding mix for my vegetables. You'll find a little green sand, blood meal, collodial phosphate, and other tidbits present, too.

I've taken trimmings, soaked the cut ends in water for about 30 seconds (slightly working out any air bubbles), dipped it in the cloning powder, and dropped it in a pre-made hole in a 4" pot of my soil. Now I've got them inside and under two 100w CFL's on a 24/24 schedule. I mist them approximately three times a day and make sure my seeding soil/cloning soil is as moist as needed for regular germination.

That does help. I've heard the numbers 7 to 10 days for roots to clearly establish for transplants. However, due to my using soil in 4" pots the can go a few weeks with roots and not outgrow my containers in a month. I'm strictly a soil grower. You can see my "methods" above.

listen to the advise then... as long as have green leaves, are not over or under watering, and giving plenty of light u should be fine,....clones are tricky, they are not seedlings!... u will notice def9inite growth..just wait it out , if its green still ur ok

Yeah, I have found cloning to be quite tricky. I don't seem to have the "touch" for it, yet, at least not like I do with growing in general. If I have say, six or seven cuttings for clones, not more than 4 or 5 inches tall from soil-top to tip, are two 100w CFL's enough? Or should I drop a few more above them?

in my experiennce i have always started clones in a cup of water, under minimal lighting.... away from the light maybe a foot for a couple days... then in the cup u will notice the roots after 5 days to 3 weeks ... then from there i put them directly into the bubbler just above the water and then let them go... i have been dipping mine in a cloning solution lately but a cup of water works just fine as well... ive also put a lil nute grow in the cup of water as well but all have had mixed results....

in soil i would say to wait it out i guess... soil sux for that reason...always waiting! if there still green then id say get the lights as close as possible, keep it damn about an inch down and hope for the best

shit... gotta go back to Lowe's... Those damn 300w CFL's are $16 a pop. I know, it ain't that bad, but those bitches add up when you start dropping clamps and splitters everywhere.
