What's you're opinion on this idea?

Hey guys,
Right now I've got a grow cupboard using cfls, but in a couple of weeks I'm going to switch to hids. I hear that heat might be an issue so this is my plan:
My cupboard is right next to a fireplace, I'm going to drill into my wall and connect an extractor fan to my chimney, so all the heat goes out of my house.
What do you think?

Depends, im not sure if the air would flow up and out your chimney or down and back into your living room xD

*edit* how big is your grow space?

If you drill into the fireplace. You'll wreck that......lower the house value and make it harder to sell if need be.
Consider LEDs

Terrible idea if you actually use your chimney. You should not mess with your chimney or furnace exhaust systems at all. Get a carbon filter or find another method IMO.

With HID lighting in a small/confined space. You're going to run into heat issues....period.
You don't say how big the area is.
I can say this. If the height is limited to where you can not have 18" - 24" of space between the canopy and the bottom of the hood. You're GOING to have problems in "felt" (radiant) heat. Not to mention light burn problems.
You goal is going to be to keep the heat in that small space no higher then 75F for any length of time, as even brief periods of "felt" heat will do unrepairable damage. While air flow is important, putting cool air in and maintaining that coolness is more so for your or about any application. If the hood is not air cooled, you're problems will be far worse!!!
LED's are low heat!
