I think it is stupid to catagorize yourself. We should just focus on being American. We should all do our part to uphold the constitution and we'll be alright. Putting yourself into catagories only pushes people away from eachother. We may all have different values and beliefs, but if we put that aside and started restoring this country back to the way the framers invisioned we could do a lot of good. So I guess i'm a constitutionalist.LOL.

You're headed in the right direction. My dad was a long time democrat, but held and espoused Libertarian values without always realizing it.

Ya got to trust someone, your neighbor, your friends, your relatives, someone, otherwise your just a misanthrope. So if you could get all your friends, relatives, and neighbors elected to the congress, state legislature, the presidency, state and local governments, would you still call them lying scum? For they are someones friend, someones neighbor, someones relative.

leading figures who represent anything close the republican ideal are ron paul and barney frank.
to constantly allow more expansion of government as well as allowing power to continue being consolidated
to the executive branch is not republican. attempting to police the world and commit to regime change and
nation building, (and the fiscal recklessness inherent in doing so) is certainly not republican. warrantless
electronic surveillance is absofuckinlutely not republican. firing of key left dept. of justice officials to
systematically remove any possible legal scrutiny is not only illegal, but not republican.
then on top of that all you have to consider the neoconservative movement for a nanny-state,
telling all americans that we are too dumb and reckless to be trusted to play some online poker.
almost a unanimous approval for the 'republican' side, of course. seriously, how is this republican?

I'm a registered democrat, because I've never changed it since I registered to vote outta Highschool ( I was also told select Democrat b/c I'm black). I never changed it because it never played a role in how I actually voted, However, I seem to be Liberal on some issues, and Conservative on other issues, and all About my Freedom and Liberties...so I guess I will change my registration to Independent....Seems like they are the only ones that get paid any attention too Anyway, While all other affiliations seem to be taken for granted.

Skewed and blurred party lines can present a problem for anyone trying to determine where they best align. Most people don't know what the terms liberal, conservative, democrat, republican, etc...... even mean.
Read these perspectives and it should help in deciding. But I agree in that most present republicans do give a bad name to what used to be a great party. I love conservatives - there just aren't many out there anymore. All the neo-cons took over. Anyway, here are some suggestions for further reading...

The problem is some one's neighbor or friend, rarely rallies enough support to run an honest campaign, unless he's connected.
Instead It comes down to what you look like, who you know, how good of a sales man you are, and how much money you can come up with. This explains how someone like Obama gets elected to the highest office in the land.
Do the democrats here think the congress has done a good job regulating the banking industry? Does anyone here have a clue WTF is going on in washington. Watch C-SPAN at least?
