Whats up with Fox Farms Ocean Forest Mix?

Starting my first real grow and will be using FFOF as my soil, I have heard about it being hot on seedlings. So will be using Happy Frog soil (unless one of you guys have heard or had any bad experiances with this mix and seedlings). What I need to know is if there is anything I should be adding to my FFOF mix or evan my FFHF mix. Will be Growing AK-47"s and Skunk#1's.Thank for the help and just having me here. KEEP IT GREEN AND FREE....

As long as you dont start feeding right away that should be no problem. I've started if ffof many many times and never had a problem with it being too hot.

I agree. I used ffof in my first AND current grow....Every seed sprouted, and grew great up into veg. stage.

Mix it with perlite. If its straight seedling I would go as far as mixing half soil and half perlite for seedlings. Ive noticed that as the rots expand the soil does tend to burn seedlings or newly tranplanted clones

Try running some water through the soil a couple times before using it...more if you don't have perlite to mix with. I would suggest Happy Frog over Ocean Forest because Ocean Forest seems to be hard to adapt to some strains.

Feed lightly UNTIL THE PLANTS NEED FOOD.... too easy to burn with Ocean Forest. Im saying this because I almost lost a whole crop while vegging early using Ocean Forest. I made the mistake of not mixing perlite too and the soil seemed to be very muddy and not so airy which meant the roots might be affected.

Its good soil but caution is needed since you are new.

i forgot to mention i mix mine with 15%-25% pearlite.

Just be careful if your using a perlite such as MG that has added fertilizers. Might be best to flush it a couple times.

peat and perlite for seedlings.......they bring their own nutes for a while. a little very-diluted seaweed, at 4 leaves, and when roots pop out of bottom, go to your soil mix, in the next container. gentler. one man's two cents

Please do not do this with FF soil of any kind. I am sure some may have and may have been successful. But I think inert perlite is the way to go. For a first grow a simple easy mix is all you need. If you wish to PM me I can give you my 'recipe' for using this easy system. Peace.
