Whats the best way to cool a 400w hps?????

I have a 400w hps with a sunburst 6in cool optional reflector.....I've heard of the cooltubes, do they go in the refelector or is its an all in one thing??? Or is it. Just best to go with ducting and a blower or in line fan??? Plz help

An inline fan and proper ducting to exchange air both in and out is the "best" way. However, I use two 8 inch desk fans (in and out) and a window fan to keep my temps down. Summer time and I will need to figure something else out. I just can't have a bunch of ducting to my window.

An air cooled reflector with an inline fan and ducting is your best way to cool that light. Sometimes you have to be creative.

It depends on the size of your closet/room, plus what are you using to vent it. I started a 400W hps grow, my first grow, in a $25 plastic cabnet. 1'x2.5'x5.5'. i gutted it, and painted it black, then white to keep out/in light, and the white for reflection. then i took 3 cpu fans from my old comp, rigged them up to a 4v-12v ac/ adapter. 2 on top for exhaust, 1 on bottom, opposite side, anyways, with that setup, i never did keep my temps at 75-80F til i ended up running a duct from my window AC to my cab. then when the plants matured, they got too close to the lights and started suffereing. then i had to buy a air cooled hood with tempered glass between the light and plants. that did it. id do the same if possible, not really stealth in any way tho.

Put in a a really small box and duct taped the shit out of....and cut 6 in holes on either side of the box
I also had a really hard time finding 6in ducting so I got 6in black pipeing frm home depot
And riged it up to the reflector and kept the opposite side open to suck air into...and
Its not it only keeps cool for like 6hrs maybe thru 12/12...I'm just tryin to get thru this grow

I actually turned my apartment closet into a grow room. heres pics. i ended up putting a purtable AC into it to keep it cool. anyways, its 2 400W hps. room for 6 5gal buckets. 3 per light. I had the two bi-folding door style closet, so i romoved one of the panels of the door, went to lowes and found a damaged pair of panels for 5 bucks. that was fine with me, only one was messed up and the other fine, i only needed one anyways.anyways, i bored out 3 4 in holes, two for exhaust, one for intake.

Dude good lookin out that looks about the same size room I got.....major help thanx man

Yeah sure man. I found its cheaper to get the whole package (reflector/ballast/light bulb) than to buy separate. I went through a ebay store. HtgSupply.com - good prices for items. quik delivery, plain discrete packaging. anyways, for a air cooled hood, 400Whps ballast and 400w hps high output bulb, its about 180, or 230 with shipping. which isnt bad for a air cooled hood, ballast, and bulb. i ordered 2, so that was near 500. i spent around 2k all together on that closet to get it to be right temps and conditions. however, if i had to do it again, i could do it cheaper. anyways, heres the link to the light i got.
