Thanks for the reply petflora+rep. so do you run leds with the t5, or is it led spectrum t5? how baddo those t5 affect your power bill? any t5 setup you could suggest? sorry for all the questions but just doing my homework.
Sorry, I do not have this thread saved and only saw your reply today. RIU has a couple vg T 5 threads. The long version is LED Without LEDs My First T5 Grow. The essence can be found in Club T5. There is no one answer as space has a lot to do with which fixture and how much $$$$ for bulbs.

The lone shortcoming is no T5 bulbs are available as a 600-700nm only, which is critical to max trich production. This is where supplementing with LEDs has promise. Alas much of what is being sold as 6-700nm LEDs are nothing more than whites with red lenses, which will fade over time (More LED lies). Unless someone is offering independent testing I would avoid LEDs for now, unless you can afford twice the light they tell you. You probably need 600 w LEDs to equal 300 watts instead of the other way around due to lies about lumen output. That said, there are a scant few breakthroughs on the horizon that sound promising

Using the same cuttings, the best I could do with 600HPS is .5 gr/watt. The best from DIY LED has been 3+ grams per watt with frostier stinkier buds. Even better results with vegging and easy to control internode length by adjust red/blue ratio.
Here we get into identifiers like which hps bulb/ballast/reflector AND whether the heat was a factor. Believe me I am no fan of hps but I see plenty of guys getting ~1- 1.5gpw

really? Im going to use a 500watt blackstar. It has ir and uv. Its actual draw is 300 watt and im going to supplement the last two weeks with metal halide light to increase potency. Im might supplement a low watt hps light for veg. Im going to make a grow journal so i can put a end to the non believers.
I am just going on a few journals that I have read and a few YouTube videos. I don't think the prices are that bad. By the time you buy a ballast, bulb, fan, added cooling, I think they are only slightly more expensive than HID's. I think it's a great idea to do a grow journal on them. Only by field testing them will the technology get better and consumers will start to use them. I also think plasma lighting and induction lighting will be inexpensive soon enough too. When the demand starts to raise in the grower community prices will start to drop. Best of luck man.
