What's that smell?... NOTHING!!!!

I need some answers. I cut my girls down at the right time... hang the whole plant for 6 days till the stem snaps or is close to snapping, trim them, throw them in a brown paper bag for a couple days if they are too moist, them put them in air tight jars [plastic not glass :( ] for another 10 to 14 days. They are super frosty, great effect, great taste, but no damn smell! I never get that good smell with the 818 headband. Any helpful info would be much appreciated! I may have a pic lurking around that I can post as well.

Once thing I've noticed is that the smell goes away after cut. It smells great during flower, good at cutdown, and then turns into that grass/hay smell. As that subsides during your cure, the good smells come back. It took my AK48 about 4 weeks cure to have that bite come back. Definitely get the glass jars as well.

I honestly think what killed the scent of your bud is the plastic jars. Plastic is still porous and will kind of absorb the scent. Have you ever picked up a sack from your dealer in a plastic bag? It reeks through the bag. Glass will keep those good scents during cure.

I agree with above... hobby lobby has mason jars on sale for 1$ a piece in my area. Maybe something to look into.

Good luck!

You can get some massive mason jars too if the yield is big. I have seen plenty of people use tupperware for curing large batches but I think it's working for them because they have their dry and cure dialed in.

I'd recommend just grabbing a 2gal mason jar on amazon.

No big grower fills mason jars to get smell. Really? Mason jars are gonna make the weed smell better? No.
By the sound of it you did the most you could. Hanging the plant will give you the most smell out of the plant. Then you just have to let it sit for a bit at the right humidity.
If you over dried you may loose some smell, but the most common reasons smell is poor, is non smelly genetics or cutting too early. But genetics are pretty much the top one.
Sometimes if you have the right humidity and give the plants a month of sitting and curing theyll come back around. Patience.

You don't need glass to have strong smelling weed. Airtight food grade plastic jars aren't seeping vapors or moisture at any measurable rate. The lack of smell is from the sweating process I believe. I do my whole drying/curing routine different then most people on here because I live in a hot and humid climate, but I do all my curing in turkey bags inside a coolador with a bunch of Boveda 62 packs and occasionally I stick a Damp Rid cup in there if I need to drop the RH a little lower. The curing is all done in plastic and my stinkiest strains you can smell inside a bags inside the trunk of a car within a minute of putting it in there. Try some in the plastic jars and some in the glass jars and treat them the same and I doubt you'll notice any difference.

Maybe it's different because my environment has pretty high humidity and the whole drying process is so slow, but I doubt that too.

And @Alienwidow and @MrStickyScissors I tried to like your posts but the website is glitching.

Because of the RH in Hawaii I hang dry my plants in big sections for 3-4 weeks and it never loses its smell. The flowers reek during trimming for me with this method and it gets maybe only a little better with a cure in turkey bags in the coolador. The coolador is just to remove any excess moisture for storing it longer if needed.

What humidity do you recommend... Just interested

Yes, some of the smell will return in the cure, but at the end of the day the really loud strains stink right off the plant, through the dry, and without any cure at all.

Actually I think it is perfectly clear that your humidity levels are responsible for your perfect ,or sounds like perfect cure. 4he correct humidity is essential as is the correct temperature and darkness to get it right.

Yup, I agree. Having the ability to dial in temps and humidity in a drying room makes the drying and curing process super simple for me. The downside is I have to run air conditioning 24/7 in my environment.
