Yes, 38 is way past the time the filter should have been changed. Gross.


The only place I've seen UV being 'necessary' is for aquariums, generally salt water tanks. The other nasties for humans are filtered out(too big to pass the filter).


I found this little tidbit on the subject of 'little nasties' and r/o.
Everything I've read and been told is they do not filter out fecal and coliform from the water but no expert, if you read the instructions on them, I've read a few, they tell you they are not suitable for that.

Uh, yeah. Trying to filter water with fecal matter in it is a completely different situation. There you're looking at the rubber seals and surface of the filter collecting biological matter and growing slime. This will pass/grow-around the o-rings.

Regular water from a tap will have all the 'nasties' for people removed by the filter, as the above quote states. Chloroform is removed using pre-filters.
