My friend sent out his paper work on march 28 and it was received certified on march 31.... It is over the 15 days with out a denial but the check has not been cashed... Is he now legal? according to the way the LARA website update sounds to me he would be legal.

Program Status Update (1/31/2012):

The Medical Marihuana Program has obtained a new card issuance system. If you submitted your original or renewal application prior to the end of February 2012 and do not receive your registry ID card by the second week of May, please call 517-373-0395 and select option #3.
To assist our staff in expediting and processing a renewal application make sure you submit your application on a Renewal Application with your registry identification number on the form.
Program Statistics:

  • 222,413 original and renewal applications received since April 6, 2009.
  • 131,483 patient registrations issued.
  • 22,550 applications denied -- most due to incomplete application or missing documentation.
  • Applications are reviewed within 15 days of receipt. Incomplete applications are denied and applicants are then notified of denial by certified and regular mail.
  • Complete applications, change forms and reapplications for previous denials are then processed in the date order in which they are received. If a denial letter is not received then the application is deemed valid. The statute currently allows for a copy of the application submitted to serve as a valid registry identification if the card is not issued within 20 days of its submission to the department. At this time, we are unable to issue valid registry identification cards within the statutory time frame with the resources available to us. We continue to review and revise our processing methods in order to more efficiently process and issue the valid registry cards.

It's 21 days after the date they received your application. I hope he sent it registered mail and got back the little green card with this date stamped on it. Again 21 days after that date his paperwork becomes his card as long as he doesn't receive a denial letter.

State cashed my check in early November. 4 months later they sent the paper approval. I just got my hard card on Saturday. Took over 6 months. It's a joke!

Well that's a crock of crap. I'm waiting on four more cards that were verified via certified usps receipt around mid February and I haven't got a letter or a card for any of them.

Why does your card expire in less than 12 months? Did you renew already
for the 5/1/12 expiration date? I think I'm gonna renew mine exactly 60 days
before it expires this time. Last time I waited until 23 days before it expired.

I waited until 3 business days before expiration last year.
The Friday before the Tuesday I expired.
I buy Postal Money order and send it registered.
Out of spite.
I got my card in about 3 months like everyone else.

I don't worry about it because I keep my old card and copy of new app.

Has anyone had a card show up with an appropriate dates of issue and expiration? Mine have always had a few extra weeks on them, while I've had patient cards that are good for less than one year?!

So he is good then? It is very important that he is legal! The check has not been cashed. but according to what I understand from the update on OP they are not going by check cash date right now b/c they are to busy. So 20 days after they sign for the paperwork at the office? It has been 20 days and have not gotten a denial.

I got a patient card that was expired ten days before they printed it. I don't have much faith in this system. as far as I know they have to cash the check and you have to have a copy of the cashed check. at least that's what I would do to be safe

I did that. My card expired 1/12 I renewed in november and didn't get my card unt april. Maybe they are getting caught up. At some point they need to get the cards out like sec of state does with drivers licences and state Id's. I wonder what would happen if people paid $100 for their dl and had to wait 6 months for it to come in the mail? I bet they'd comply with those people!!!

I would not count 21 days until the date of the cashed check.

a check that has been cashed is acceptance of the contract. no checky cashed, I would not start counting the 21 days.
just me.

but idealy, yes, 21 days from the date of receipt of your application and check, you are SUPPOSED to receive either a Denial Letter stating the reason for the denial, and what is needed to correct it, or your hard card. As most are aware, the hard card has been lacking, though a new printer seems to be inplace and working. I recently sent in a renewal, though im still waiting for anything other than my cashed check. though I heard a few say they sent stuff in Jan/Fed and have gotten the new cards. others said they got the ACCEPTANCE letter then the hard card shortly after. My renewel went in early March. Check cashed day after acceptance. still waiting for acceptance letter or hard card. will update when either arrives.
