Whats going on here then?

Hey all, newbie grower, on my second run through of the beautiful plant (my first run failed, and all plants died) and in need of a bit of help. I seem to have a plant that is going into flower before changing the light cycle to 12/12 or switching to Red spectrum CFL's. Is this usual, and if not, why do you believe it has happened? My lights are a total of 300W cfl, with 275 dedicated to Blue spectrum, and 25 to Red.

Sorry for the poor quality of picture:

Any info you could shed on this would be great.

Dude plant looks good as is starting to flower. Put her on 12/12 and go get more 2700k soft white CFLS. When a plant matures it will start to shoot out preflowers like you are seeing. You are on your way to growing some good weed. Just be patient and let her go. It can take up to like 15 to 20 days for a plant to sex some times. STAY HIGH!!

Right then you beauties, thanks for the help. Im going to wack it into flowering tommorow. The only problem is I have very few hours of work per week, and am financially a bit shattered, so I cannot yet afford to switch to red spectrum. How negative an effect on my yield / quality will it be to start flowering with mostly blue light? And if I start flowering in blue for a month, and then switch to red, will that harm my plants in any way?

The plant will still bud with higher kelvin lights, will most likely not fill in to great. Light/fluffy/stringy buds. You will be fine if you waited a month then switched. I just would't recommend staying with 5000K+ for all of flowering.

I agree that it will work but the faster you get to most 2700k the better, even if it is light by light, when you can spare the money for a bulb
