Whats better cool tube or hood

So i recently purchased a 1000 watt digital system. Its a virtual sun system and when i got it i thought it was goin to be a grow hood but when it arrived today i realized that it is actually a cool tube inside of a grow hood instead of the pane of glass to contain the heat. It is still good reflective material to shine the light down but... Is this worse better the same or what. I just want to get some feedback to see if i should return it for diff model. thanks RIU

I have a 1000 hps in a cool tube you can hold the glass under the bulb and barely feel heat i'm using a 420cfm extractor fan with inlet outside. I also have the 32 inch square hood and wow what light output!! my space is 4 foot square 6 foot high with 5000btu A.C. on an inside wall stays 77 degrees and pumps my G13's. jack

I personally do not like cool tubes. I use all magnum XXXL 6 inch vented hoods and they dont get much over ambient temps but if i had to do it again I would buy parabolic hoods. I have to cooling units, and I have the space to go up.

hmm well it is set up now and is directly next to my 22"x21" 6" cooled hood and it seems to be about same amount of light.

ballast and bulb brand are almost identical.

Both seem to do a fine job cooling the bulb and glass housing, i have an 8" valuline centrefugal fan at full speed cooling two 1000s.

It seems like the cooltube has a wider constant spread while the 6" cooled hood is more intense light in a 3'x3' area then starts fading faster. still not sure how i feel about it tho, i wish i had an accurate lumen reader to really measure which one puts out better{more} light...

innahurry, im surprised to see you said that you would go with parabolic, to me they always seemed like the worst/cheapest/hottest of the choices, i always figured if you have a vertical bulb you should be growing around the bulb not under it, Is the bulb mounted vert or horizontal?. I hope i dont sound like a dick just wondering what drives your want of the parabolic over that badass XXXL u got, jealous by the way lol. Thanks again guys

Hoods are better. Better light dispersion. Get a Radiant hood if you can afford it. They are the best.
