Both. A one gal res isnt even close to enough space for even a single plant. Im not sure how much light it comes with but if its anything less that a 150w hps or cfl (which im sure it does) its going to a weak yeild in comparison... I guarentee it! With all the modifications needed, IMO you would be better off making your own diy system (about the same price and you will get much better bud)

If you do buy a 600 watt hps consider a cooltube reflector to keep thing cool and maybe add small led for supplemental light spectrums. Is what i run in my 8x8 tent and works really well.

But you said nicer set up so i assume you have some money to spend. I use 600watt hortilux bulbs in the cooltubes and a few kessil h150 led hanging around to really keep thing dense and penetrate the bottom of the canopy better.
