what methods are used to get rid of them?
I was having issues with purple stems I thought it was a shortage of magnesium but it turns out it was these little suckers. This is a huge help to me since I know what the issue is now, I need to correct it to the ladies back into the right health.

I battled Root Aphids years ago... These guys are fucking monsters. I tried a lot of stuff and never managed to get rid of them until I removed all of the soil (and roots) from my garden by taking a brand new clone of everything in my closet. I studied them a lot.
The different colors come from them eating different stuff, their bodies are actually clear. They can be green/red/black/yellow, doesn't matter. When the colony outgrows it's pot they will swarm; they develop wings and fly around looking for a new plant to feed off, and will look a lot like fungus gnats at that point aside from the remaining crawlers.
If I encountered them again I would try beneficial nematodes. I tried Nuke Em, Azamax, and even some more aggressive methods that I'm not proud of employing and nothing really seemed to knock them back. Act now while the infestation is nubile.
Anyone else have any good ideas?

I have Ed Rosenthal's 'Marijuana Pest and Disease Control' book here and he has a number of strategies to deal with root aphids.
Good old neem drench.
D-Limonene citrus oil.
Azadirachtin, an alcohol extract of neem.
Herbal oils. (whatever that means)
Pyrethrum as a soil drench.
For bio controls he lists,
Beauveria bassiana. A fungus that can control over 95% of root aphids.
Beneficial nematodes. Good against aphids, fungus gnats and thrips.
Spinosad.
Nothing about how much of each stuff you have to use but shouldn't be hard to find out.
Hope that helps and you get rid of the little demons.

Them be root aphids alright. Ticks look more like crabs. I've pulled enough of them off my dogs over the years. Off myself on occasion too.

I've seen plenty of people posting about root aphids in hydro systems tho it's fairly rare. There are a few species of those little buggers.
