What to veg under?

I have a 600w apollo digital ballast. Can either use the mh or hps, cant use both. Mh is 55,000 lumens and the hps is 89,000. I have 4 plants in a closet under a gull wing. I know mh is the typical light to use for veg my ladies are very short and bushy and full, not much verticle growth but alot of branching. I habe them under the mh right now but i was thinking maybe id see better results by switching in the hps.

I know a few guys personally who go the full grow with HPS, but one in particular says that after side-by-side tests, the plants have further distance between nodes with HPS only (ie. they stretch more, which it sounds like what you want).

Personally, I'd use the MH for veg and into the first week of flower, then switch to the HPS. Remember that the plants will stretch 2-3 times their current height in the first 21-24 days of 12/12.

I have the same apollo setup and I have to agree with spek9. definitely use the mh the whole time in veg and into the first week of 12/12. If growing autos, then use the MH until vertical growth slows or stops. Lookin good, good luck with your grow!

Thanks guys! Yea im gonna stick with the mh, i had the light too close (about a foot away) saw the plants drooping a little so i raised it to about 2 feet and they look alot happier and actually grew upwards a solid inch and a half in a day. I definitely had my light too close. First time using mh/hps. Grown outdoor and indoor with cfls plenty of times tho. Finally have the space for a real light so i got the 600w. Kind of regret not getting the 1000w but power draw and heat were an issue. I dont really have a heat issue now even with the gull wing / bare bulb. All i have is a 12" oscillating fan and 2 small 4" fans and my temp stays at about 82 degrees. Humidity kinda low 35-50 but i think ill be fine.

Everything sounds good to me. My temps and humidity are around the same, no problems here.

What to veg under?
