Hey guys, I topped my plant about 4-5 days ago and ever since then the new leaf growths at the top has been bunched up together. It seems so uncomfy for them being squeezed like that. Is this supposed to be normal?

i am under the impression that yes, it will fill out nicely. when i started to top mine they were all bunched up, and then the weight of the growing leaves started to pull them out and down like they are supposed to be.

but hey, i'm a newb =p

When I topped mine it looked like that for a week or so then filled out with 4 main colas. See the pics...

You wanna see dense growth, check out my 4 week old Wonder Woman and La Blanca plants. These things are almost TOO dense. It's ridiculous. I'm using LST but I haven't and don't top my plants.

Hell, they're all dense, but not nearly as bad as those two.

Those look nice. I've been thinking of using LST this go round rather than topping to reduce stress and the chance of hermie.

Topping your plant is probably not the culprit. Topping is a common technique. Using Female seeds is more than likely the culprit. You run the risk of running into them. If a strain isn't stable, the likelihood of hermaphroditic traits is increased. Light interruptions can also induce or encourage male flowers to grow. I'm sure there are plenty of clone growers and standard seed users that have never run into a hermie. They seem to be more common amongst female seed users, of which I am one.

Well yeah Serapis has a point that fem seeds do have hermie traits. It is a matter of genetics BUT stressing a plant can induce hermie also and topping does induce stress. How much I guess is up to the hardiness of the plant and it's strain.

It's a risk all fem seed users deal with (me included) though if I had the time I would buy reg seeds and look for female plants to turn into moms.

Same here... I intend to do that this summer. I'm also going to look into making my own fem seeds.

If you do that please do a journal. I followed your LED experiment with great interest until some uh...things went down.

I have one going now, in my sig is the link... The LED's worked out OK. I ended up with close to 10 ounces, then ran into mold during the cure and went to an emergency water cure and lost about 4 ounces. In the end, the buds were tight as hell.. Bubblelicious is a beaut strain!. I'm now working on cloning in a fogponic set up.

Nice, I've got 10 reg bubblicious seeds I have yet to grow with. Working on nirvanas WW fem as we speak. Crossing those fingers.

Speaking of LEDs, what are its advantages? I've seen people who swear against LEDs and but also some very interesting experiments involving 24 hour lighting with different spectrums. Tried understanding them but it's abit too complicated...
