I have been growing for a decade, and have done all kinds of differetn systems and such, and for MYSELF I find 100% COCO to be the best for my grow style. This stuff is impossible to over water, and is very forgiveing. COCO all the way in my room.

I just did some research on coco and gonna use it my next hydro grow.
From what I understand coco has no nutrients and is naturally pH 6.5 so its easy to work with, holds moisture well and at the same time provides oxygen.
The only down side is salt. coco is harvested on the beach and sea water gets salts in it. Some manufactures let it sit out for a couple years and let the monsoons wash it before harvesting it.

Here is a good youtube video put out by canna coco that gives a lot of good information on Coco and how it is produced. All of the good Coco Producers Soak their coco husks in fresh water for 6 months. The cheap coco soaks it in sea water. Canna has good coco but there are other brands just as good. I NEVER buy the pressed brick coco. I ALWAYS buy the loose coco.

Coco is so easy to grow in I am training a Monkey right now to take over my crops for me. You can water you plants 5 times a day and they will not stress over it. You do have to flush them about every 10-14 days unless you make sure to have a 25-35% run off when watering each time. I just water until run off starts, then about every 10 days I give them a good flush to wash out the salts.

This link below is to part 1 of 3 on COCO.

I just got some of this stuff: Botanicare cocogro

It came in a brick and I didnt flush it cause if you read it they say it has been done.
Its already mixed in my soil but I haven't added plants yet and have some left over.

So like if I got some r/o and rinsed a small sample and got a low TDS reading I should be fine right?

Yah, you will be fine. I just hate the compressed bricks because they are so much work to break up. Plus they have a lot of fine dust and duff. With a good quality bagged coco you can use it like 3-4 times. Even if you get infested with bugs and they lay eggs in it, you just soak it down with a double dose of ZYME for 4-5 days, then flush it with boiling water. New Coco does not have mico-orginisms in it, so scolding it with boiling water is ok, unlike soil.

OK, thanks man. Ya had me a little worried there.
Yeah, the brick, I pH'ed about 5 gallons of water to 6.5 and slowly poured it on the brick inside a wheel barrow.
It slowly swelled up and I broke apart with a shovel without hardly any dust at all. It filled the wheel barrow too. My guess about 5 times the size.

Good to know you can flush it with boiling water and reuse it. Not this grow but that will come in handy in my hydro grow.
