What size CFL would be best?

So I am going to try my luck with cloning here in a couple weeks. I just bought some fixtures for 4 bulbs, so I can use some CFL's during the cloning process. How many actual watts should the bulbs be for clones? I figure I would be doing 4 to 6 cuttings. How many bulbs would be optimum for the first week or two?

I saw some CFL's that were 13w I think. The 26w won't be to strong for them? I also saw some CFL's that had an ionizer built into it. It supposed to get rid of smells. Anyone ever used these before? I saw them either at Home Depot or Lowes today.

The (few) reviews on the ionizer CFLs are so-so. I wouldn't count on them. If you want a good ionizer I would look into this:

For $50 it does a great job. Of course a Carbon Scrubber such as the one in my sig is what you really want if odor is a big concern. And no the 26w won't be too strong for them, just keep it high enough off the plants and it will be fine.

I've read that you want to keep them 1 to 2 inches from the plants. Is that accurate?

If you're talking about for odor control I have no clue! I would imagine closer is better though. I think ionizers are better used outside of the grow box IMO.

No, I wasn't talking about the ionizers. I just happened to see them at the store. I didn't think they would work for odor control in my situation. I was asking how far should the CFL's be from the rooting clones? I heard to keep CFL's like 1 to 2 inches from the plant.

well clones dont need a lot of light, i have seen many people use a t8 strip for a whole row of clones. you could use a few 13w if you want.

I use 26w CFLs for veg and clones. When starting the clones just keep them high off the plants, like 20in or so. As the clones root you can start moving the blubs closer. During veg I keep them just a few inches from the leaves.
