What led?

Don't ask yourself how much you would pay for a.sleeping bag standing in the store. Ask yourself how much you would pay for a sleeping bag when you are freezing your ass off in a tent. I imagine they would be 2 very different prices.

I only say that because....

1) the cheaper led light Panals might work for a little (but read the horror stories first) but what happens 6 weeks into flower when that light stops working?

2) you spend 200 on a shitty LED now, you run it for a cycle, realize it isn't what you need, now that 500 LED that you should have started with costs 700.

Trust me man, I was in the same boat looking for a deal. To get what you need to cover the area that you want you are looking at $500 for an LED. As mentioned above, if you can't stretch that into your budget, go for an hps air cooled set up and work your way into led.

Or do it DIY and save money and get a good light. Imo those are the only 3 options you should be.entertaining.

I might just get a quality UFO for a single plant
PSU mentioned Home Depot Cree bulbs. Check out captainmorgan's homemade UFO using them: https://www.rollitup.org/t/flowering-with-cree-bulbs.656542/page-11#post-9542113 . Those are BR30 floodlights.

From what I gathered, people are doing 1:1 to 1:3 in veg (2700k:5000k). 3:1 to 4:1 in flower. There are other ways to mount them, like flexible goosneck extenders. I summarized what I learned from captainmorgan's thread in a blog page. (<<link). Those are A19 omnidirectional bulbs in reflectors.

You need about 22-25w sq. ft. In a 2x2 space that would be about 10 bulbs. The BR30s are more expensive but you don't have to buy a separate external reflector like I did. You're looking at $150-$200. But, you can start gradually. For vegging you'd need around 5. Add more as the plant gets larger and flowers.

the panel has a very good warranty. It will last for years before any diodes burn out. The drivers would be the first to go if anything. The cree bulbs from home depot have a 10 year warranty honored by cree and home depot. They will last far longer than any cfl. Plus cfl's put out uv-c which is very bad.

For a tight budget light it seems like it would be wise to emulate Mr.flux. I estimated it's about $300 to build a 200 watt light with vero 10's. Which can be solderless if need be.

I'm getting ready for a first attempt at vegging with LEDS: 2x 17w floodlights from Home Depot in a 12dx24wx48h cab. If you have a second can you answer two questions for me... What is a good distance between these lights and the sprouts/seedlings? Do these LEDs produce enough heat to overheat that small of a space?

Wow that gave me a flashback

Back in 1982 a buddy and I went from sunny and warm south Florida to Yellowstone/ Grand Tetons. We slept in my JansSport tent with rain fly. My Northstar mummy sleeping bag was good ~ 40*s. My buddy had a chap sleeping bag. It was the coldest June in recorded history. He froze his ass off. In the morning the tent fly and car were covered with frost. Brrrrrrrr

To answer the first question prolly a 12" or so...put ur hand directly at the top of the canopy if ur hand feels the heat they are to close....for the second do u have an exhaust?a temp guage? Walmart has a couple of models with battery operated remote sensors and 12 or 24hr memory w/ humidity (necessity)imo

Thank you for the reply. Looks like the temps get close to 90 when the cab is closed, 70 with it slightly open. I ordered a 120mm AC cooling fan and need to track down a jigsaw.

I'm a new member, so I can't do a journal yet, but I just popped the first two for this setup and so it's time to grow and learn about led.
