the rest of your growth looks healthy,so my guess is the last thing you did to them or changed is the problem.

Your pot got too dry in between waterings. The new growing completely shriveled up. As said above, you are probably root bound. I imagine you watered, then those roots dried out immediately while the rest of the plant still had water for the next day. I would repot immediately, then cut off all that bad stuff.

They are in the ground in clayish soil, but with good sized holes dug out, and about 1/3rd mix sand, composted manure & storebought potting soil put in. They've had some chemical fertilizer with micronutrients. Thought i may have watered them too much.
The leaves do seem to straighten out once full-grown and there's been an explosion of growth. Just thought I could do something for them. Never had any do that before.

Thanks

even "normal" leaves look screwy. puffy and bloated. the clay was a mistake. don't water for a bit, and re-assess. imo

LoL! Good guess. I think they had one application of miracle-gro about half strength, after which the color got darker and they for sure had a nice growth spurt. (but that was also when the crinkling started) The other chemical fertilizer was some sort of time release turf food or similar. Have no idea the brand name but it had the micro-nutrients. (but no weed killer etc)
I used what I could find free and/or easy because I'm poor. Should they need more fertilizer, what is the best (cheap) thing?

The manure, it was something from the yard & garden dept, Storebought composted manure. Have no idea what critter(s) it came from. Is there something wrong with cow manure? It may be too late to do anything about that but I'm curious to know.

my plants are doing that too. mine are in a 5gallon pot though. so the roots might be extremely condensed or maybe im burning them with the miracle grow flowering bootser....idk but the rest of the leaves are okay.
