when you was a nipper you never used a magnifying glass on a sunny day to burn holes in things ?

water droplets on the plants can act just like a magnifying glass burning little holes in the leaves
especially when under strong lighting like HID

its quite possible some of these outdoor Jamaican plants would have some little burn spots on them
i am not so sure why you are certain that they don't ?

just because you are not aware of something does not mean it does not exist

That's generally because when it rains you're not getting intense direct light to the plants, feel free to try it yourself. Water droplets magnify light, it's basic science and common knowledge to any gardener to not wet the leaves of plants when they're in direct sun
