What is this chamber for?

I was looking on the illadelph site at their custom pieces (Illadelph Glass Official Website: Custom Gallery 2008) and I noticed that almost all of them have a chamber after the ashcatcher, does anyone know what it's for?

I was told it was for nitroglycerin to cool the smoke. Guy at headshop told me. but who can get that sh!t?

it's not nitroglycerin. nitroglycerin is a hideously sensitive explosive. It's a glycerin chamber, and that is the coil in the main body, not the circled chamber I'm asking about.

I have seen a slightly smaller piece with something hangin' off like that and it was just for looks.
