What is the best way to deal with pests in soil?

My last couple of grows I have had a pest of some sort in my soil, it is translucent, and looks like a termite. My question is, what is the best way to kill them and prevent them? Growing in pots with potting soil. Thanks.

What is the best way to deal with pests in soil? Growing outdoors in containers with potting soil and I am getting small translucent bugs in my soil. I have had a problem in the past with these pests and they destroy the roots of my plants. What to do? Please help.

I wanted to add that in the past these pests attacked the roots of the plants killing them.

Can you show me these " soil bugs " please ? First time I hear that ... and you sure they eating roots ?

Are they small? Maybe thrips? idk

Fungus gnats? Thrips? You can buy nematodes that help contol thrips. An inch of sand over the potting soil will eliminate gnats.

Need pics. Could be springtails (nothing to worry about), root aphids, thrips, etc.

Different remedies for different critters, but as a general rule I like using neem seed cake mixed in to my soil, then I innoculate the soil with BTI bits. You can also buy nematodes as veggiegardner said above, or beneficial mites (Hypoaspis miles)

So you crush up the mosquito dunks and mix in the soil? I think I'm gonna do that in the fall when the fungus gnats go crazy around here.

They sell them in bits too so you don't have to crush them. Apx a tablespoon per cubic foot of soil

To answer some questions, today is the first time I have saw one this season, and there weren't many, sorry I been able to get any pics yet as I was unable to catch it as it buried deeper into the soil when I was inspecting drain holes. Last season, the bugs reminded me of termites, if that can help with a diagnosis. Also are termites a possibility?

probably thrips if they are closer in size to termites. RA's and spirngtail are smaller

sand works pretty good too ive used it for years and never had a proble so far sae with h202 every water held keep fungus away too really good sae with really good airflow an moderate spacing and the color yellow really attracts bugs too

mikeo2 would just piss in the soil (not my advice)
