Just wandering what peoples opinions are on the best water pumps to use and also what size? I am starting out with an 8 5G bucket system with a 105L waterheart. Do I need a 1400 GPH pump and will a sump pump do or is that overkill. Also what size waterheart should I have if there is a standard.

I've always used around 100 gallon per hour pumps. If you pump too fast, roots might start to get pulled into your drain. I just like a trickle flowing into each bucket. The bigger the pump, the more heat it adds to the solution as well.

I currently use 2 aquarium pumps. Both are submerged. One is a a powerhead for aerating the res, and the other pumps solution to the buckets. I run 20 gallons now ( 4 buckets, 1 res), but have done up to 70 using the same pump but that was using totes instead of buckets, so the manifold still only had 4 ports on it. (4 totes, 1 res)

Much thanks, I thought it was a bit too much. I am using a tote for my res, very good info on how many gallons you can run off one pump. That is what I am going for too, just a drip top feed system.
