What is Data Governance

Any I.T. experts here? I have 3 questions and I need answers ASAP I have been lucky enough to be considered to attend a summit abroad about data governance. I don’t have a background whatsoever with I.T. I work as an internal auditor and a colleague of mine who was supposed to attend the summit beg off due to family issues so I was the one sent in her behalf. Data governance is a broad subject and I have been reading about it because I don’t want to be out of place during the summit and I want to contribute something also. So here are my questions: 1) is it applicable to every industry? 2) is it expensive? 3) names of (data governance) service providers that you know. The summit will be on 27-29 July 2016. I'm not an IT expert but I'll try to share some ideas in a way that I have understood the term "data governance". It could be rules or standards in taking care of a company's system. Based on what I have seen on the web, it ensures that data entry is well manage. But, I think, a technology help might be needed to meet a quality standard.

My friend actually advised me to read and use "Ghostery". He said it can answer all my inquiries. Anyway, thank you for sharing your ideas.
