What I learned from my first grow. Time for #2! (Pics included!)

I just finished up and cured my 1st grow 2 weeks ago, and my 2nd grow is now on its second week. My first grow was with 4 Indica clones under a 400W.

Here's some pictures of Grow #1.

Here's what I learned from the 1st grow:
-SOG a whole hell of a lot earlier!!!
-Use nutrients the entire time
-Water less! Every 3 days instead of EVERY day
-Treat root mold ASAP
-Treat vitamin deficiencies ASAP
-Proper ventilation

That doesn't even include the curing process...which I could learn plenty! I'll start a new post about that once this batch reaches that point.
Please provide some critiques and feedback on what I should do differently this time. It would be greatly appreciated!

Here's what I have setup for Grow #2:
-Botanicare Cal Mag + Liquid Karma + Pro Bloom + Pro Grow
-1000W ushi(sp?) HPS (same hood, new ballast)
-Fox Farms soil
-Opened up a " big vent " into the attic up above and will have a carbon filter soon to funnel out
-3'' inline fan
-Normal Oscillating fan
-7 Sativas and 2 Indicas (What do I do differently for Sativas vs Indicas? Trimming?)

The clones are going on their second week. I'll be updating this post at least once a week with new pics. Here's the current pic below:
(let me know what other shots/angles you would like to check them out)

Thanks a lot guys! Looking forward to using this forum more and more as I get more experience!

Congrats on finishing your first grow - have you sampled some?

Only thing that jumped out to me is that you might have to work a bit with keeping the indicas from stretching for the light once the sativas take off and get tall.

if youre worried about some plants being taller and all that just set your short ones on something to raise them up phone books work well and who actually still uses them still for anything else

Yes they do - that's why he might have to work (i.e. raise up the indicas) once the sativas have outgrown them. Otherwise the indicas will stretch once the light has to be raised in accommodation for taller-growing sativas... That's likely going to be a problem is he's using a screen like in the pictures.

No sir.

i think what he meant was that the indicas will stretch for the light because once the sativas get tall they will get less light.

Good thing I have a couple phone books laying around. I'll put those under the Indicas once I see some separation in their heights. Thanks for the feedback

My wife is a simple genius, I had a late bloomer (went into the veg room 2 weeks later than the rest as I was trying to figure out what I would use to prop it up she flipped over an empty pot.... genius gave me that extra 8 inches or so!!

It ended up pretty good. A bit dry and a bit thin/fluffy. Definitely looked better coming off the plant than it did after. Although I was VERY surprised at how well it turned out for my first time. I've actually already smoked through a large majority of it. I like to share with friends! especially those who help out with the garden haha;.

Question: I'm using 3 gallon buckets right now for each of my plants. Will I need to upgrade them to larger ones? (not sure I have room) Or should i just stop vegging them early enough so they don't get root locked? Thanks!

Answer: I got 13g off a Sour Diesel that spent 55 days (flowering) in a 1qt container, I would say if you ain't got the room don't try to force larger pots in there, but the key to this method is keeping the roots wet (not oversaturated just don't let it dry out).

My room temp is 80deg with the door open, and 95 with the door closed. I have 1 3'' inline fan and another normal room fan. What are some other options to get the heat out of the room? This 100W is really bringing down the heat. Some plants look a little burnt, some with wilting leaves. I can post pictures after work today if that would help, but I'm pretty positive its because its too hot. What are the optimal temperatures for a grow like this?

Maybe I can run some heat off the lamp into the attic right above the grow? Running it out the door wont work for when it's closed. But I can definitely dump some heat in the attic and out through the roof/garage. Any ideas on the best way to do that?

Thanks!

I'm thinking an line fan and some ducting off of my light? Do I need to hookup to both sides or just pull the air our one side and up into the attic??

Thanks! Will post pictures of the plants on week 3 soon.
