what happens when you wait too long to harvest?

I just visited budy that got legal the same time as me. We started growing in november of 2010. Since then I've harvested 2x. He's STILL got the same plants growing. He started flowering them 3 months ago and claims that since the trichomes haven't turned amber yet that they still aren't ready. The buds look all stringy and the hairs an inch long. He's confident that they are going to be JUST FINE. I think he's crazy. But I did look myself and the trichomes are clear as glass, but the plants themselves look hideous, their tall and lanky and leaves are light green.

Give me feedback on this. I tried to get him to check out rollitup.org and He seems to know it all allready.

Are buds sometimes done regardless of the signs from the trichomes?

This response is a waste of my time. But so many many things are wrong there it is not even funny. If u want to grow just do it right and well he is not and nothing will help that.. No light, no nutes, no co2 bad genetics, no experiance. Why bother. Amber is not what you wait for! That is for suckers on sites like this. When the trics are cloudy u are done if the buds have swollen and the hairs have mostly reddened and turned into the buds. No amber is not really important.. I let one bud go long this last time and it never even 3 weeks past my harvest changed to amber until it was drying. Don't ever wait for amber just cloudy. And clear depending on strain is sometimes a great smoke. Mine is taken half clear and half cloudy one third of bud, then I wait till all cloudy and chop the rest and all are happy with the end result.. Do us a favor and don't ask questions that are a waste of peoples time... I only answered because I am bored and can't get a response for feedback on my yield from two plants under 1k hps that was 9 oz's cured dry and ready.. No one will comment on whether that was is good.. I think so but f it.. And tell your friend no strain but Thai takes 4 months to flower....

PS. Bs that you have been growing for less than 5 months and have harvested twice.. U guys have no clue how your bs sounds. Trollssss

Sounds like you're both doing something wrong..
I think the truth behind the front is that your friend is growing weed, badly, but hes learning. And your probably not growing anything and your jealous of his grow.
Just my guess.

unless you had 2 batches of grow set to harvest a few days apart,..
he could have veg'd one set up plants, to get the sex, then cloned them and got two harvests that were a month or so off each other. Whats so hard to believe about that?

As for what happens when you wait to long, from what I understand is the trich's start to degrade and the high isn't as potent. Some plants take longer than others to be ready. Let your friend learn and figure out what works best for him.

Wow , this thread is something else , just stumbled across it web surfing and I know it’s old af n all but damn ppl , what’s up with all the negativity?? Aren’t we supposed to help our fellow gardeners out , encourage and lift each other up ?? And those with all this experience shouldn’t we be educating new comers not insulting them ? Each and every one of us were ‘newbies’ at some point am I right ? Idk just saying . Pretty disappointed reading this . Anyway rant over , peace out ✌ happy growing to all !

New member here but I have been growing for about three years. I harvest at least 4 times a month. I have a veg room and a flower room in my basement and stagger my flips so that I have a plant finishing roughly every week. Now sometimes, due to varying flowering time, I'll go a week without harvest, or two will finish at once, but it is very possible to harvest more than once in five months. I think the negativity in this thread is funny, tho. That's usually the sign of someone who thinks he knows it all but is just a garbage human being.

But getting to the original poster's question: I have let plants go too long and have had issues with herms. Letting a grow go too long not only causes degraded THC content but you run the risk of a last-ditch attempt at self-pollination. It is time to harvest when your pistils are about 75% brown and have curled in on themselves. Check with a loupe that has 60X magnification to make sure. You want your trichomes to be about 90% white and 10% amber. I usually harvest as soon as I spot a few amber trichomes and the hairs have curled in on themselves. I have had a few booboos waiting too long and ended up with seedy weedy.

See how the hairs on this Critical Purple Kush are curling in on themselves? It is just now showing a few amber trichomes. Just a few days away from harvest here.
