Hey all i am knew to using ventilation in my closet grows and my father and i are working together to convert a small 2x3 closet with 7f high ceiling. my question is what type of fan should i get for my ventilation in a room this size? i really dont want to spend 50 bucks for a inline fan thats going to be super loud and more then i need for a tiny grow area. this is only my second time growing and im still a complete novice and totally ignorant in the ventilation game so any advice would be much appreciated untill then i will keep searching for answers on our trusty rollitup.org site

area's that small only need a small air flow so a fan blowing thru the closet and any type of way to let air out.. your only looking at 40sqf or so ..

I guess that depends....what kind of light you are using and what kind of heat you have. Also keep in mind circulating air is good for your plants. I have a 2x4x8 closet that I had a 400w HPS in. Keeping temps down wasn't easy, I do live in a warmer climate. I have a 4" 180 cfm fan ducted through carbon filter, through my hood and exhausting into the attic. That worked pretty well but I would still get up to 84/85 in my spare room closet in summer. But overall it worked great...it does make noise though. To help with that I rigged up my fan in my attic in a box with a muffler...lol It is pretty quite now ;) I am now in a tent in that same closet 2x3x5 with a LED and it is much cooler. I run the same exhaust setup and half speed I almost don't need to have it on right now but as I mentioned plants like fresh air!

You may not want to spend money, but if odor control is important to you, don't skimp on the right gear. As rwbrock said above, 160-190 cfm in line fan will do the job, but depending on your lighting, you may struggle with temps later in the year. $86 fan works great: http://monstergardens.com/HVAC-Fans-Filters/Inline-Fans/Inline-Fans-Rebel?product_id=1858

I also went to LED in my 2 X 3 X 10 foot closet but quality fixtures are very expensive. Temps were always an issue until I replaced my HID with LED. Put the fan in the attic and run flex tubing to the closet, very little noise that way.

Good luck!

if you have an extra honeywell you could make this for almost free https://www.rollitup.org/do-yourself/458433-cheap-easy-inline-fan-under.html
that would be the heat extraction fan, you also want a small osciillating fan for blowing the canopy a little. A good sign of adequate air flow is all the leaves wiggle. I like putting the intake low, and the exhaust high, opposite the intake so it pulls fresh air up through the canopy (extra co2)

an intake filter is nice, you'll be suprised how much they catch. They sell filter material at home depot for 10 bucks for a huge sheet, and its re-washable so it lasts forever. This will keep dust off the leaves and lights and reflective walls, increasing yield!

if possible, make the room air tight so the exhaust fan will pull the intake air passively through the intake hole

they also have a silencer box thread, if your honeywell is too loud. Get good materials when making this stuff and don't half ass it, and you can re-use the stuff you make in later grows for perhaps veg chamber if you upgrade

Are you wanting to do carbon filtration?

I would recommend a small, quality 4 in inline fan with a speed adjustor, turned all the way down.

It will be plenty of airflow and quiet. But, it will cost you more than $50. The adjustor alone will be about $25.. Prbly $75-$85 for a vortex 4in fan.
