Leaving more material on is sometimes advised if you’re in a very dry climate or your drying process is below say 40% RH. THe extra plant material helps add moisture and increases humidity slightly allowing for a slower dry.
If you’re in a high humidity area when drying, you’ll want to remove foliage to help prevent moisture build up and molding.
I concur. I grow for myself so bag appeal is not important. I trim to shape it up but mainly to make some bubble hashI only grow for my own consumption, so I don't really care about leaves.
I trim the sugar leaves until the bud has some shape to it, but I don't dig into the bud and remove leaves at the stem.
