What do you think about the lighting setup?

Yeah, I might go with a two shelf system.
And that sounds good as far as venting goes, but I'll still put a small fan in there for circulation. I guess well have to see results.
This week I'll probably be starting some bagseed while I wait for the delivery, so we'll see how it goes.
Yeah if I had the room I'd use a small floor fan in my grow area, but just no room. Since you have the room, go for it. I think the biggest part about growing is trial and error.

Alright, so I ended up setting up a shelf.
Germed and planted two seeds and waiting for two others to pop. Pics:

Thanks, Yeah, I like the white panels better than the plastic, much cleaner. This morning I picked up four Y splitters and ordered two of these to position better:

Will be planting at least one more tonight, the other seed is being stubborn to germ at almost 72 hrs.

You cut a hole in them there CUPS?Need em for drainage.Best advise i can give for a newbie is DONT over Water!!When containers light add, learn weight dry and after Watering!!! Also with cfls most lumens come from the coil not the bottom.

Thanks SOMEBEECH, yes there are slits in the bottom sides and the bottom. Also, I'm going to reposition the lights for that very reason.

One seedling came up for some air, and I planted one more. The last one hasn't germed yet so I guess I'll just wait it out for her.

Rearranged the lights and put another fan for good measure.

OoShould I put my thermometer farther from my plants? Its reading 84f but that seems off from the whole closet's feel. Maybe its too close to the lights, or maybe I really do need an exhaust.

Edit: Yeah, temps stayed at about 83 84 all night so I gotta do something..
The only problem is that the intake is in the ceiling already, and ideally I should exhaust through the ceiling and intake lower right? I was thinking about ducting the air to come in at the bottom and cutting another hole to go out the top. For now I did this so lets see how it affects temps having the air come in at the bottom.

Is tht a supply from your A/C unit?I own a HVAC bus.The reason i ask you could if you havent already add a inline duct fan a 8inch moves about 245cfm.And yes cold air settles and want exhaust from the top.

Yes, that is from my ac unit. Well, I solved my heat problem. It turns out that my ac fuse went out last night, just needed to be replaced. I guess I didn't notice as it wasn't so hot in the room. Back to 75-79f.
Lets see how long this can keep up though.
Even though were back to normal temps, I think that the one seedling took a hit in the process. It grew about 1/2 inch today, but the baby leaves have a *little yellowing. I hope it pulls through. The other two haven't sprouted yet.

About the inline fan, not sure if needed, but I would definitely use a fan for exhaust if the need arises.

But what I was trying to say was that since my ac intake is on the top, would it be necessary to move the intake to the bottom as in the pic (although since taking the picture I have completely removed it)? Because if the intake and exhaust were both at the top, it would sorta defeat the purpose right. Either way, it looks like I might not need exhaust, but I may have to revisit the topic come flowering time for odor control. I did get some ona gel for later, and plan on putting it in the neighboring room on a plate next to a fan (there is always a fan there so it wouldn't be conspicuous).

This is all a learning experience, so I'm trying to have some fun. I just love projects like this.

Btw: I got some 3/4 gallon pots and they seem big, but from reading should I get bigger pots? Or is this alright for 4 plants in this size of closet? I mean, will I be too crowded if I go 1.5 gal or more? I've got plenty vertical.

Day 3

The other three are planted, but haven't sprouted. Nothing to worry about this early in the game though right?

Oh yeah! 4/5 sprouted. I put an extra one in there, because one of the first two doesn't seem like its gonna come up. I only planned on having four, but if the straggler comes up than I'll keep her.

Just bought a few 42 watters. 3 2700k, 3 6500k. 8.50 a piece. Going to put em in tonight.
Sprouts doing nicely.
Btw, the straggler died.
Also, a quick update:
I've set up intake and exhaust and its going well. Although I may need an insulated duct for the ac (using a window unit instead of the central air) as I am getting LOTS of condensation. lol I had to put a towel under the unit it was so much.

Got nutes, 15 shipped.

New Bulbs (3 and 3)

New Growth

Day 7

Day 3

Should I be worried about number 3? Its kinda yellow on the baby leaves, but the first true leaves are still coming in. I'm def worried about the last one. I kinda cracked one of its baby leaves... oh well. I germed another seed to replace it, low expectations for that one pulling through.

Woot! Got my seed order today. Can't wait till the next batch. I plan on starting it in about 3-5 weeks depending on when I flower this batch.

And another freebie came today.

Also, to get a general idea of my current setup

Ghetto AC

Ghetto carbon scrubber exhaust

Also, I'm getting alternating leaves on this one already at the second set... Weird or what?

Ok, so were at two weeks from sprouting for my oldest girl, so I wanted to check how the roots were doing to see whether it was time for transplant. I didn't take pictures because I was so nervous to drop it or anything, but the root ball held together pretty well (part of a chunk fell off the side with only dirt in it though). I saw that the roots had mainly pooled at the bottom of the cup with still quite a few on the sides, but hardly any near the stem for about an inch down. What do you guys think? Transplant? Wait? I think it's time, but what do I know right? Thanks.

Alright, sounds good. The other question is 3 gal or 3/4 gal next, from what I understand it's acceptable to transplant more than once, but is it beneficial? Stepping up sizes I mean. The other factor to consider is the space limitation (about 4'up and 2.5'x2x wide for each shelf). I certainly have the floorspace for (4) 3 gal pots, but will that paint me in a corner when it comes to height?

tl:dr
Basically I have (4) 3/4 gal and (4) 3 gal pots. Which should I use.
