What could this be?

The tips on one leaf is going and orange brown colour. Anyone know what it is? Ive got 3 plants, 28 days from seed and everything is fine all in same condition except one which is in a 6" pot rather than a 12". There about to get there first fert when it arrives. I use cfls 24/7 light and trying out some tomato compost this time, the plant seems thicker and stronger than my last grow

Burnt leaf tips are generally the sign of over fertilization but is generally displayed on most of the leaves. Is the picture extremely recent? If you notice a uniform transition where the other leaves are doing it I would bet thats the case. Slight fertilizer incompatibility may also lead to a few random color (necrotic) spots on foliage as well. Anyone unsure about fertilizer regimens, ie: unsure if they are overfertilizing or underfertilizing, would be wise to visually look for slight leaf tip color changes. Apply fertilizers at 1/2 or 1/4 recomended doses if you are using pre added soil nutrients or have fertilized regulary with solution. When leaf tips are just ever so slightly yellowing (and Im talking the very 1/8 inch tip of your fan leaves) it is a visual indicator that your nutrients are on track and the plant is extremely close to being full on nutrients and verging over fertilization. If they go further up the tip as your pics are showing and actually start to turn necrotic (dying, drying up, color changes) than youve gave them to much. At that point the plants will continue to exhibit this behavior from main fan leave to most all growing tips and may need to be flushed with water, though you shouldnt ever get to this kind of fertilizer damage if properly diluting your nutrients to doses less than recomended until a good balance is met.

yea this picture was taken today. Ive not added any fert, its been feeding from whatever nutrients are in the compost.Ive looked everywhere on other leaves but no sign that there doing the same. This did happen overnight, was fine when i went to bed and woke up to that

if you dont want to flush them just do some adjusting and let it grow if you get it on track itll be fine. i had some plants that had the same thing happen and i just let them grow and they did fine-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

it could be light/heat stress if your not giving them nutes at all the lights are too close or you need a fan dude!! whats your venting looking like

I dont understand everyones comments to flush the plant when i havent used any fert.
Maybe it is the lights there less than 2" from the top of the plant, didnt think they were powerful enough to do that. The only venting they get is me opening and closing the doors when i check them around 3 - 4 times a day. I used to have a fan but it was to big, ive got more plants this time and not much room so got rid, need to buy a smaller high powered one or two

yea that should be good the best way to tell is put ur hands under the light if its too hot for the back of your hand its too hot for ur plants

Moving the lights up a tad wouldnt hurt if its by an inch or two but that plant is certainly not exhibiting behavior of light over exposure. The whole plant would be affected by that and rapidly. kidcuruption has the right idea in waiting it out before flushing as it doesnt look to be affecting all the leaves, of course by tommorrow that could all change if it continues to exhibit the undesired affect on multiple leaves. Regardless of not giving the plants ferts as you put it, if you planted a seedling in a compost mix you did just that, and perhaps the incompatability is coming from there. What mix/ratio of compost did you use?

no idea whats in the compost, there no npk on it or anything. I used about 2/3 compost and the rest was stones and perlite

I say stone but there only small pebbles. Problem ive notice with this compost is it takes ages to dry out, i havent watered them for 4 days and the meter still shows half way. I keep wanting to ignore it but it aint getting any better.
Heres some more pics
First and second pic is the same plant as before, looks like the leaf below is starting to get the same.
Third pic is my smallest most unhealthy looking plant, its in the smaller pot to

Things are gettin worse, the leaves are going crispy to the touch. These are plants 2 and 3. Ive never shown plant 1 cos it has no problems. Im starting to think my problem may be the soil as thats the only difference with this grow
