What causes Ph to....

Why would my ph run off be 5.3 coming out if going in it is 6.5? Just noticed it today. I am starting to flush a nice veneno and not sure hot this happened?

Any thoughts, thanks all.:-(

The salts in your growing medium are lowering your pH.

[h=2]Does Salt Change the pH of Water?[/h]
  • It depends upon the pH of the water into which the salt is being introduced. Chemically speaking, salt is a base compound, falling smack in the center of the acid-alkaline spectrum. If introduced to water which has a high pH, the pH might be lowered incrementally toward the center of the pH spectrum depending on how much water there was and how much salt was introduced. If the water had a very low pH, making it very acidic, the salt would increase the pH toward the center of the spectrum.

ok, thanks so what are your suggestions to fix? Just add nutes and a higher ph when watering? So after adding nutes, raise PH to about 7.2 or so to lower the ph of the soil?

how do your plants look??
i've never, not once, checked the run off ph of any soil grow i've ever done as i don't understand what it tells me, other than the ph of my run off, and who cares about that?

pH runoff from a buffered soil means nothing.

A good soil with buffering capacity will cover a multitude of sins.

ok, thanks. Somewhere along the line on this forum I read that some will check ph of run off. Plants look good, just being paranoid. REP TO ALL

I'm sure you did read that, probably dozens of times, but it's not really true. Check the pH of your soil if you think you have a problem, runoff means nothing in soil grows assuming it's good soil.

Hydro growers check pH constantly, but you are not really learning anything from soil runoff. Read post #12 in this thread, Jack Herer explained it perfectly. And read the link he posted.

Just realize he wrote the link he posted. Anyway this guy knows exactly what he's talking about.
