what are the negative effects of pollinating female plants for seeds?

I want to pollinate a few branches on some of my females next year for seeds and I was wondering what the negative effects are? If I just pollinate one or two branches per female, will it decrease potency or yeild that much? Would it be better to just pollinate a while female and leav the rest for quality bud?

Negative effect is less yield. Where there was once bud there is now a seed. I polinated my first plant a month odd back, due to not selling weed, it's nowt but a good thing. So i've taken to just leaving a male plant in my cab and let it pollinate the whole lot. Means i get lots of funky strains to play with, means i'm making new things and means i don't have to pay £5+ a pop at the seedbanks. Also means i get lots and lots of seeds to post to various people to enjoy meaning they no longer need to get ripped off by seedbanks either.

Quality is argued, a lot of litrature states that it get' more potent when eeded as it creates more THC to protect the seeds. Others say otherwise. Short story ebing that it doesn't appear to effect potency in any discernible way for better or for worse.

so if it effects the yield, how bad is it effected? I am pollinating for the sole purpose of not having to buy more seeds everytime and hearing that it doesn't effect quality is great. What is better: leave the males and femals together and pollinate all of the females or seperate the males and brush their pollen on a few branches on each female? By pollinating all of them I figure I will get a ton of seeds, but much less yield. if I just pollinate the lower branches on the females, I will hopefully have high yield at the expense if less seeds.

hermy the plant n get 90% all fem seeds, light cycle: 5 n half on, 1 off, 5 n half on, 12 off

If you can hermie ya plant that easy then maybe try better genetics ;)

The yield will be effected. One bud might have 20+ seeds in it. However much the seeds weigh is roughly ho much yield you've lost. As a very brief example i had exactly 28g of partially seeded cheese, i removed the visible seeds and lots 1g, so if fully seeded it could be a good bit more. But at the end of the day i still had plenty enough cannabis not to worry too uch about it

Partially worked for me. I got a few stray seeds but one branch yielded 60 seeds. Beleave it or not those few that got away made the dope better because the female senced a male and produced more thc.

I haven't figured out how to send messages or anything on this site yet but could I buy some seeds? (any help on how to navigate this site would be appreciated too :$)

Do not offer to buy or sell seeds on the site. It is strictly forbidden my the site operator.

So what do you suggest: pollinating a whole female or partially pollinating a few females?
Whatever works for you. Selective pollination is more work and you get less seeds and more sensi. Free pollination is zero work and you get more seeds and no sensi, but still plenty of potent weed to get you high for a while (depending on crop size).

I just wait till my male is starting to dump pollen, then grab it and give it a shake - let the fans blow the pollen around. Then I remove the male to reduce crowding in the tent.

In the future, I might start selective pollination, or I might do sensi only. Every crop is a new opportunity.

I hit selective branches on almost every plant I flower. Anywhere from 60-100 seeds per branch. The only effect I see is on the branch itself of course (producing seeds takes energy and the buds you hit will be mainly seeds), but it doesn't reduce yield or change potency in either direction, that's "interweb" bull-shit.

Here's one I pulled on Sunday, two side branches were hit for seeds. You can probably guess which branches were hit with pollen, but the rest of the plant produced fine sensi...

If it were me I would take the best female out of my crop and put her in with a male let the one plant seed and now you have one plant for seed production and the rest of your crop is seedless

Open pollination is fine if you have the space and dealing with the odd cross. I do that when I get to a testing stage if I think the cross is ready to make hundreds. But when you have 12 strains on the go, hitting branches for testers saves a lot of space. If you're doing personal it's no big deal doing branches. If you're selling you probably want to do it separate from your flower room to ensure you don't get the odd seeded bud.

My thought is if you have say 3000 seeds to pick from versus 12 your chances of finding a true keep female or male even goes way up but I only pheno hunt one strain at a time tight eyes all!

Easiest way :

1. Germ a strain you like in a SOLO ....
2. Grow it under 12/12 from start ......
3. Use CS spray on it around week 2 .... Until it " sexually matures "
4. Under 12/12 it will begin to sex quickly and will NOW begin to throw LADYNUTS
5. Let it grow to maximize ( pollen sacks )
6. Harvest pollen .... Dust your female girl ( couple of lower branches )
7. SHITCAN the SOLO CUP.

POOF SEEDS !

I sling pollen often and I would avoid placing a male in with the rest of your grow...you will get a ridiculous amount of seeds and little yield (those seeds will replace yield!)

I collect pollen in separate room in small container from male then get rid of male. I then remove the female from grow and and with NO air movement happening I flick a paintbrush on a lower bud site (not even a whole branch) and flick downwards then stick in front of fan that blows away from rest of plant and any loose pollen will be blown away before placing back in flower room.

I usually get 10-20 seeds this way from 1 or 2 bud sites on lower part of plant...remember need at least 30+ days to make viable seed
