What are the benefits of topping?

Why do it and how? I'm new to the idea, so just wanted some opinions. Thanks in advance.

many colas instead of just one = more yield at harvest time.

you can top for 2 or 4 colas on a single plant, just depends on which internode you cut at

So I for sure will have a higher yield. I just watched a video on youtube saying it doesn't effect the yield but the guy also seemed like a moron but was smart about some things, so I'm Just making sure.

hes wrong for the most part. but if you just plant a seed or cut a clone and let it grow and flower and do nothing at all except water it and make sure it's healthy then u will FOR SURE get a bigger yield if u top it.
