i see banana peels mentioned, potato peels too
i use molasses tea which has a bit of potassium, molasses is a pretty good source
and good clean wood ashes are great if you have them, i use them to add some K during watering

I've read about others using ashes too but after some research, I really couldn't find much about how to use them. How do you use ashes?

this is just my own way, not necessarily the best way
i will take a tablespoon of wood ash, add to a half gallon of water
let dissolve for a while, then filter out the sludge, i like clear water, but that's just a personal preference
the spring water i use has a 6.2 ph, after adding wood ash it gets to around 6.5, maybe a touch higher
tell you the truth, the results i get just using a bone meal/molasses tea(molasses is the K source) seems to work just as well without the extra wood ash K
my micro grows don't seem to exhaust soil nutrients too badly i guess

Wood ashes, find a friend with a wood stove. The harder the wood the more potassium, be sure to crunch and grind up the black chunks too and mix with soil.
Don't add too much it increases alkalininty - or check ph after first watering as it reacts fast. You can adjust before planting or ph your water to balance out.

can't tell you finer points of the recipe for these(just that they have been used by others for K), i'd think incorporating than into a compost pile would be the usual method
