what are drug sniffing dogs actually looking for???

They're trained to smell beta-caryophyllene and caryophyllene oxide. One's a sesquiterpene and the other is its oxidation product.

Ok, here is the deal, you look at a bowl of stew, you see carrots, meat, gravy, peas etc with your eyes you see each piece. A dog smells like you see. That is why they can smell through just about anything. When they train them they start out by rubbing a ball in weed. That smell pretty much stays there for as long as you or I could ever smell it but the dogs can. You can not beat the dogs dont try. They win everytime.
If this guy is right we can just stop using "clear" containers. hell that was easy.

I would think animal right people would be all over this, forcing the dogs to work, and in clearly dangerous and harmful situations, and obviously anything weed related "is" dangerous and harmful.

the dog has no clue it's looking for drugs. It is trained @ a young age w/ its favorite "Toy" that happens to smell the whatever illegal substance it will be trained to find. So while the dogs are sniffing through stuff they are really looking for that scent of their favorite toy.. :D
