But I decided I want to join the Marines. I had to give up my weed (gave it to my mom) and I'm gonna give my friend my pipes and grinder. I'm a little sad, actually.

Make it good!

@ross - Its okay, you will be back. I think its good because your tolerance level will go down and you can enjoy it like you first did.

Could be the biggest mistake of your life joining the marines. Death isn't even the worst that can happen. How'd you like your future if you come home missing body parts or with mental problems? Just the pussy you'd miss out on alone...

I'm with GrowTech on this one.

I don't know how many times I have to tell my family
"I'm not going to work for the corrupt government".

But steadily my grandmother calls talking about the "Job Core".
Ugh, she is fucking annoying. I'm getting ready to stop talking to

her ass if she doesn't quit telling me to go to the fuckin job core because
its just straight up pissing me off.

I was a marine myself. Giving up smoking definitely comes with the job.

My only advice to you would be make sure you pick a MOS (Military Occupational Specialty), that keep you off the field.

I take it the only reason you are joining is because of how hard it is now to find a job.

Just remember the military is like any other job, just a whole lot harder to quit.

I wish you the best

Just so everyone knows, I'm a girl, so my chances of being deployed are quite minimal. I haven't taken the ASVAB yet, but got an 80 on the practice one. My boyfriend and I are getting married and joining together. By extension, he's more likely to stay here as well because the Marines has a rule about keeping spouses together. I'm going in for legal services or possibly administration, just really depends. I'm joining for many reasons, most of them pretty selfish if I'm being honest.

I don't mean we can't be deployed, but I can't be infantry and he isn't signing up for it, so when and if it comes time to deploy, they will choose other men before me and by extension, him.

Congratulations on your decision. I am 100% positive it will be the best decision you have ever made in your life. Regardless of the hate and discontent out there towards the govt, it has nothing to do with you. You are a good American making a true blue decision to serve your country. Keep your head up and always do the right thing.
You are also 100% wrong about your chances of, or lack of the possibility for deploying. Trust me, you will be in the mountains (or valleys) of Afghanastan or on ship or some other country within 6 months of finishing your schooling. There is no special treatment for females unless you intentionally get preggo to avoid it. Then your looked upon like a chicken compared with all your peers.
One last thing...dont think the Corps will do what you want because your married. They are taking you in to do a job, regardless of marriage, race, sex, etc... You are making a commitment and they expect it to be upheld. You will see less of him than you ever imagine. If your lucky, you will both deploy roughly the same time. Most likely, he will go and get back and then you will go. Repeat that a few times and think back to your last post.
Yeah - I have some experience with the Marines :hump:

People with this point of view have no clue about our world... oh well, at least there are people who do and who devote their time and their lives to protecting their country.
Well said, I'm gonna snipe you with a +rep every time I see you for saying that. :)

Ross...its very brave of you to decide to join the marines. I think if I could go back I may have joined up right out of high school. Hard to join once you have a family.
Anyway...I am positive your job will never get boring and will always be an adventure. The old 9-5 gets old.

Trust me it gets old after a while. I went in after HS and stayed for a good amount of time. Definately reaping the benefits for the rest of my life now. We are doing amazing things in the middle east but unfortunately good things dont make the news...only bad things. Its a slap in the face to our young men and women that are volunteering to serve. The ones that need to be punished for their actions are dealt with swiftly and professionally. Everyone else, 99.99% are doing a fabulous job and making an everlasting impression. So if you aint been there and seen it first hand...STFU with your negative BS.

Stay motivated
