Weird discoloration starting

I have recently planted an easybud seed in BioBizz All Mix (I know some people say it’s too hot but it’s the only appropriate soil you can get your hands on in my side of the world). The growth started quick and normal then all of a sudden I notice that the leaves look dark green and are slightly curling upwards so I thought it’s heat stress (I had it around 3 inches from 5 x 23W CFL Lights) so I moved it downwards today to about 6inches because the CFL Bulbs are warming up the pot.

However, I have noticed today some discoloration towards the end of the leaves. What do you think that is? Could it be the hot potting mix causing nitrogen toxicity? Will she grow out of it?

Hello bro.
For starters the media looks damp.
Secondly, it's only a seedling. It can't be deficient. But it looks deficient in magnesium.
What's your medium????
If it's soil. What was the ph of the soil when you planted?
Your medium looks too hot. What type of soil are you using?

If it's hydro.
Lay off the feed. Get the ph right.


Either way, I think it's your ph. Plus too many nutrients, and it's causing a lockout.
Dry it out.
Then give it some plain water.

Good luck.
Plant should be fine.

Biobizz has a pH of 6.5. I water with a water of pH 6.5-7. I’m using organic soil but BioBizz all mix is heavy on nutes so I only water with plain water.

It’s a 5L pot so I add 0.6L to it every 5 days when the pot becomes relatively dry. The plant is 5 days old.

My advice still stands.
It's all I can see is wrong.
The plant is fine. No sweat op.

Easy bud is an autoflower if im not mistaken..i grew one once from royal queen seeds. The soil you are using is loaded with nutrients and ammendments, being that its an autoflower, and won't be very big per the breeder's description..my guess would be the soil may be too hot for it. The plant is showing what would appear to be a potassium deficiency, but with your soil, that would be very unlikely. Unless your waterings are way off with ph, my guess would be the soil may be too hot.
The pic was my easy bud..but it grew strictly under 23 watt cfl's the whole way. Final dry weight was 24 grams.

Dry it out. 5 litres, is a massive pot for a seedling. Photo or Auto. Soil, or hydro.
Dry it out.
Plain water.
Plant will be fine.

Auto is usually recommended to be planted in the final pot that’s why.

As for the pH a soil pH test is showing a pH of 6.0-6.5.

Do you think theres any need to higher or lower that pH?

If you're using it new, out of the bag, the ph will be fine for the soil..make sure the water going in is correct as well. The lights you're using won't cause a burn..even at 3 inches away, it can't be nute deficient in that soil, again, assuming it's new and not used for prior uses, so all i can think of is it's nute burn..too much for an auto. During veg, in that soil, you may not need to give it anything until week 5. Just possibly magnesium.

So you suggest I just keep everything the way it is and not add any nutes until 5 weeks old. When do you suggest I start using CalMag?

As for the lights, should I bring the plant up to 3in again? But that is causing the edges of the pot to heat up and I’m trying to avoid any heat stress.

Also, I have added a plastic cup over it to make a humidity dome.

Get rid of the plastic cup..the plant needs fresh air..covering it up will not help at all..you may grow mold! lol As for heat stress..cfl's that size are not that hot..check with your hand..if its not hot for you..it's fine for the plant as well. For now, since it's still so small and you have 5 bulbs..you can keep the 6 inch distance. What are your temps/humidity in the grow area? As for exactly when to feed, the plant will tell you, but auto's, especially a smaller one like easy bud, in such rich soil, will last until flowering, but you obviously have to keep an eye on her and she'll tell you when she's hungry:) For now, there isn't much you can do aside from transplanting to something lighter...watch how she does, if she's getting worse, try new soil, if not, then all is good. I cant think of anything else other than it's getting burnt in the hotter soil for now. What kind of water do you use? You may not need calmag at all if using tap water until maybe flowering. What will you be using as your feed?

The soil here is really bad and retains a lot of water, it killed 2 other easybuds before. The all mix is the best one I can get :(

I will be feeding red worm casting I guess.
As for the water, I have filtered bottled water at pH of 6.5 and I have the regular filtered tap water that seems to have a pH of 7-7.5 I think that would be too high right?

It’s getting really tiring with all the failed attempts every single time! :(

I hope it recovers in that hot mix. But since it’s organic it shouldn’t be much of a problem no?

Are you able to get hold of PLAIN. Potting mix.
Or a really good, quailty, brown compost?

The only potting mix available here is Plantaflor (German) but my older easybud Seedling died in it. I luckily found BioBizz all Mix and it really has shown quick sprouting and growth until the discoloration I saw today. Its worth noting that yesterday the leaves were very dark green and facing upwards in the shape of a “V”. I’m usually afraid of messing with the pot after planting the seed because I never was able to help a plant after repotting they used to die shortly after repotting.

Sorry. I didn't mean for you to misinterpret. I meant for future grows. My original advice, of plain water still stands. Your ph is fantastic. It's just a little burn. Plain water is all you need.
I'd try something like this next grow.

50% Your current soil
5% sand
15% course pumice or perlite.
15% coco peat
15% peat moss.
A little gypsum to buffer.


What nursery ingredients are available, to you?

Which bit of the world are you in, out of curiosity, as someone here might be able to help you with something more local which isn't the "big name" mix but which could be a tad softer and gentle than the stuff you have.

Ah, just noticed "Germany". Think we've been here before with how the labels are different to what us western neighbours have, but IF you can find Agrofina Bio Nature, a Belgian/Benelux mix, then grab it as, well, this little blighter is 10 days out of the ground, is 9cm tall and clears 15cm in width and looks to be loving the stuff.

Oh, don't worry, there's plenty perlite in there, it's only the top 1/2" or so that's pure "potgrond".

There’s perlite here, hydro, coco coir (biobizz), im sure there’s also peat moss somewhere, i’ll try to do that mix next time!
