got some nice growth going on man! nice to see... how often do you do your nute changes? once a week, every 10days? Ive seen diff people do diff things so im just asking questions for my own personal preference to get and idea in my head of how often i should do it

Generally, I do res changes once weekly. When the plants are young and not drinking much, I'll stretch it some - but only if the pH is within range. I draw the line at 6.8. Later, when the plants are really putting away the groceries, I'll cut it to 5 or 6 days. I prefer a complete res change over topping them off because I can never tell how much of which nute is being consumed the most. Besides, it's an easy operation and nutes are cheap.

30 Days !! Woo Hoo! The plants are growing up fast. Still no sign of any trouble. I checked the ppm and pH today. pH was a little high so I added a few drops of pH down to get back into the range that I like. I took some photos and them FIM'd all three. I'm really looking forward to them bushing out in the coming weeks. Take care all.

Nice. I'll be watching for that good growth to come. The bucket in the pic is just a spare I use when I want to work on the plant or take pics. My DWC buckets are Home Depot "Homer" buckets with a hole drilled near the top for the air hose. That powder is combination of dried up nutes and hard water residue. It coats the underside of the netpot.

check into a salt flush. one that removes salt buildup so you dont run into issue's. im not running pure hydro so i dont use it. but ask around and research.

Funny you should mention that. I picked up a quart of Fox Farm's Sledgehammer just this week. I'll add some at the next res change.

Try drip Clean as a weekly additive to your res, I’ve read that sledgehammer is better used for flushing purposes and not an additive to your nute schedule... but so far man, i like what i see, keep up the good work! SUBSCRIBED!

I had a few questions Weedo, maybe you can help me out...
first is, what scale are you using to measure your ppms? you mentioned your ppms are around 485-500, I’m assuming your using the 700 scale, I’m using 500 and my tap water is around 6.8ph and 180ppms...
Second, do you use a heat thermostat with your seedling heat matt during germination? if so, what do you keep your temp at? if not, how come? don’t those matts get kinda warm?

Thanks for the heads-up on Drip Clean. I'll look into it. Sledgehammer is mentioned as a flush on the Fox Farm feeding schedule available on their web site. It says to add 1/4 tsp per gallon along with your nutes every two weeks. Reading the label on Sledgehammer, it says it's a nutrient rinse that helps rinse out mineral salt build up and relieves nutrient lockup. it's made of 10% Saponin and 90% inert ingredients. I don't see that I have any problems so far, so I'm not 100% sold on Sledgehammer. I am new to the Fox Farm line though, so I thought a little exploration with the stuff was in order. We'll see.

I keep my Bluelab ppm pen on the 500 scale. That's how it came right out of the box. 485-500 is the ppm of my tap water - before adding anything. The water is hard here. My last res change, I ended up with ppm in the 1050 range. +- 10 or so. Am I doing it right? I've never really played around with it very much.

I use the Hydrofarm 9x20 heat mat without the temp regulator. I seriously considered buying one when I got the mat, but they're like $30 .. plus I saw a line on the box that read "This mat is designed to raise rooting area temperatures approximately 10-20 deg f above ambient air temperature." I haven't a clue how it accomplishes this, but its right on the money. I tested it with my tray and humidity dome and a couple of wet rockwool cubes for 3 days prior to starting my seeds. I snaked the temperature probe off my thermometer/hygrometer down a vent hole in the top of the dome and kept an eye on it. It ran 75 to 85 degrees the whole time. After fiddling around with the dome vents, I kept the humidity up around 60% and got the water to bead up nicely on the inside of the dome and everything. The seeds/sprouts loved it. Plus .. its low maintenance. Way better than the regular old WalMart heating pad that I used to use.

I do not use the heat mat for germination. I read somewhere that seeds will germinate nicely at room temperature and that, once sprouted, they like a warmer, more humid environment. So, I presoak my seeds in shot glasses with tap water for 24 hours, then I pour off the excess water and dump the seeds on a dinner plate covered with paper towels. I lay another couple of paper towels over the top and give the whole show a good spritzing with water. I top it off with another dinner plate and leave them be. I usually have to spritz with water again after 12-14 hours but within a day, they will have spouted. From there, I place the seeds in the rockwool cubes and hit them with the heat mat. Works like a charm.

.

Im pretty sure you are, i too wonder if I’m doing it correctly, as far as ppms go. my water is around 172ppms on the 500 scale after about a day of aerating. I’m shooting for a light/normal feeding, i think WEEK 1- 325/350PPM WEEK 2- 375/400PPM WEEK 3- 450/475 WEEK 4-575/600 WEEK 5-675/700= THEN FLOWERING= WEEK 1-750 WEEK 2-850 WEEK 3-850 WEEK 4-950 WEEK 5-1050 WEEK 6-700,

what do you think?
my question is, do i compensate for the 172 from my tap, or do i look to add "week 1 325/350" of just "straight nutes" or is that "172 of tap and 175 of nutes”? because if i do have to compensate for my tap 172ppms, thats me using 1/4 strength dose recommended by the product line. that can’t be right...

so i found the answer to my own question... and yea... ill add 325/350 of just str8 nutes, then test my ppms, and it should read 500/525, for my first week. glad i cleared that up, even tho i should have known this...

How are your babies doing?

who seems to be drinking more, the sweet tooths or the white widow? you should try and compare feedings and keep a note, so you don’t over feed one or the other, but it shouldnt be a problem either way, but it would be a cool journal keeping... your at 900 at week 5? little high but if there not showing nute burn go for it...

my system is air injection soil. its part hydro and part soil. my soil has some nutes in it. in hydro im not sure how there res drops ppm wise after they feed and recheck next day. I water then feed then water then feed. 1 feed is 900 ppm then next is 600 ppm. i am running 3 strains and they all drink about the same. as far as plant size goes. Blueberry/C99/Bubblegum

its always good to measure ppms both before feeding and at res change, this way you kno how your babies are doing and how much there drinking, of course if the plant is thriving, keep on doing what ur doing, but for journal purposes and safe keeping, keep track of there feeding uptake.. just some friendly advice from on hobbyist to another! I’m talking hydro here, i have yet to have any interest in soil. but I’m sure one day i will..
