Weed Anxiety/paranoia

Hi. I am 23 and I have been smoking weed since 5/6 years till last month. Initially it was the best thing I was introduced to. I stopped going out to clubs and instead smoked a joint or 2 in my house and just laughed for hours with some good friends. Every time I smoked, it was a different (fun) experience. Slowly after 4 years or something, no matter which good quality weed (indica/Sativa/hybrid) i tried, I would just couch and watch some videos and be anxious and paranoid about life. I would just be blank when meeting people and found it extremely hard to socialise, even with the people I am super comfortable with and who earlier helped me get a really good high. I have come to a point where I just don't like seeing anybody after I am high and I just prefer staying home, and on top of that, it makes me really anxious/paranoid. Anyone with same problem?

Welcome to RIU

There were times in the past that I took breaks from consumption for several days or weeks. It definitely helped to reset my brain and body. Take a break from it for a little while. If/when you return to it, you'll notice a big difference. After long periods of use, I did notice some mild physical withdraw symptoms like sleeplessness and nausea, but it wasn't overwhelming.

You have to stay of it for a while or be more strict in your consumption. I use it medicinally and I found that ideally I would only medicate two times daily like after lunch and late afternoon.

Like every other drug you have to play with the tolerance to keep as much medicinal effect as possible.

Then there's thing like turmeric and curcuminoids who also binds to the CB1 receptor and greatly alter the effect of cannabis if used in enough high dosage. Longer duration, way more pain relief, works better as a anti-inflammatory and less side effects.

If you want to incorporate something newer I've had great results in the past with mixing Aniracetam and Cannabis. Aniracetam is a nootropics which removes most of the side effects you describe. Don't forget to supplement with a good choline source if you decide to use it, either eggs, lecithin or Alpha-GPC or citicholine. I personally eat sunflower lecithin in my turmeric extract.

There is a lot of recreational drugs that started as a doctor's prescription. For generations, cannabis has been a recreational drug that has only recently been accepted as medicinal.

Just like any drug, how well it works and tolerance levels can change. It also has to be treated as a drug and not a miracle. There really is too much of a good thing. It is best used as a treatment and not a cure. It helps you deal with crap and pain but it rarely removes pain completely and forever; emotional, mental and physical.

I firmly believe that the mental health toll is just beginning after COVID. We have to adult and socialize again.

You're probably more stressed out in life. It helps to be relaxed when you smoke. High self esteem helps too.

You need a nice long tolerance break. Get out and get exercising and gently ease your way back into socializing. When you begin pot again use it sporadically.

My understanding was Aniracetam was aimed more toward dementia.

I can identify with that. I actually no longer smoke before driving because it affects me way differently than it used to, plus I rather enjoy driving in general.

If you still really love cannabis but it's causing you these issues; 1) first & foremost consider your source, the quality of the flower might not be to your body's liking. 2) grow ur own if at all feasable, and consider medium THC strains & let them go slightly overripe in flower. 3) try concentrates, waxes/dabs or vaping? Edibles maybe too, but in my case edibles can heighten paranoia & an unpleasant vibe if I overdo it.

Eventually, you might just get used to it again, but I wouldn't bank on that. I hope it becomes enjoyable for you again.

I also feel like tolerance breaks REEEEAALLLY heighten my initial sense of paranoia and guilt upon smoking again. So fuck that. i stays high now  lol unless I gotta pick my wife up, then I gotta wait to get back home to blaze.

You're right about that. It is. It's the only one in the piracetam family class of drugs that has documented anxiolytic effects.
Interesting, didn't know about that, thanks. There's also 25 mg of Benadryl that helps calm paranoia too.

I got that way after smoking for about 10 years. I put it down for a good long while. I grow commercially, and I still don't consume but maybe once or twice a week... if that. I can still get panicky on some high THC/low terp strains, but I have found a strain that we grow that works great for me. It's Crescendo RBX1 at 11% THC, and 2.38 terps. Very mellow high, and I can smoke on a blunt all night long, and maintain. Plus, I know what's in it.... or NOT in it... like sprays or pesticides. Im sure that smoking Eagle20 (pesticide) can prob make you feel awful.

I found a more mellow daytime high works for me.
C99 and sour diesel bring that happy, social buzz.
Good for laughs, hiking, biking, being active.
But as always there is a too much point and the zombie effect overtakes.

I am long overdue, but a tolerance break is something that should be routine.

When you start back, buy some hemp flowers and when you smoke a bowl, mix 50/50 in a bowl with regular weed. The CBD should help and it’s less THC that way.

Nah. You’re good. People suck. Get a dog and a good grow going and relax. You’ll get back in the swing of things.

Not all people suck. After I take a long break I get super high too, but if I'm not worried about getting paranoid I'm fine. It's when I think I might get paranoid that I do. It's mostly in the mind for me. Too bad I haven't had a break in over 10 years, since I haven't been without it.

I don’t know if you can “shop” terpenes where you’re at, but apparently Crescendo has a lot of Camphene, b-Caryophollene, and a-terpinene.... seems to be more mellow for me anyways. I think this is my favorite strain we have ever grown.D82D147A-1A1C-4563-829B-18FC51BC2EC9.jpeg
