wattage??

what is the minimum wattage for a light bulb that you should grow with, and expect a nice harvest?

i have two 18" 15watt flourescent lights from home depot that are putting out light from the spectrum that plants can receive it the easiest. i've had the lights on them almost the whole time they have been growing [3months total, 2months with lights].

is this ok? or should i go and buy better lights?

obviously this is my first grow

You're gonna want a lot more light.

depends on what you consider a nice harvest?
With a regular light bulb you can grow just fine, one plant with maybe 1/2oz.

I grew a Starwberry Cough with a 150 watt HPS and was happy for my first time.

When growing with flourescents I really think you ought to look at actual lumen output and spectrum, rather than just wattage.

Having said that.. Go buy some better (more) lights. CFLs aren't that expensive mate.

well u can afford more watts in ur grow room, 15 watts from a fluorescent light is terrible. a normal 15A house circuit can support 1800 watts max, try not to go over 1440 watts or 80% of ur total current carring capacity. high pressure sodium or metal halide would be ur best option for gettin the most light from ur watts. 400W lamps i would suggest

does wattage matter? b/c i use 42watt cfl's. I read on a site that the lower watts produce longer plants but very light, fluffy, weak buds. where higher wattage yields better size buds. IS THERE ANY TRUTH TO THIS? i do have a 25 watt cfl too. and a 60 watt grow bulb (blue tinted glass for the full color spectrum) which is next to useless!!!! thanx best wishes.....and happy growing.....joey
