water temps and PPM questions in DWC grow

Im starting my first grow in both Coco and DWC
Due to my research water temp should be kept around 20C, 60-65F
I live in an area now temp around 5-15C, 41-59F
So the water will get really cold during the dark I suppose?
it's that gonna be a problem?

Another question
According to my FoxFarm hydro nutrient feeding schedule
The recommend ppm for seeding is 490-630.
but i also learn that not to use any nutrient during seeding from research
Should I use any?
Also any tips for first DWC grow?

Sorry for the poor english, not a native speaker

You need to take into account the number of airstones to be used and what airpump you use, the pump will put warm air into the nutrient water. So you may well be able to keep the water at the right temps. Test it out before putting plants in.

lincon1231, seedling have baby leaves called cotyledons and they look different to your first real leaves. They will act as food for your seedling and start to yellow off, then you can add nutrients. Start at a lower dose than recommended.

Your English is better than mine and I'm from England. :bigjoint:

I live in similar conditions as you (I just started DWC also and first time growing so im a newie) and I have my first seedling popping up. I added 1/4 strength nutes to mine as cotyledons came out, as well as hydroguard/cal-mag with a final ppm of 230 and pH 5.8. Started drooping pretty bad and said screw it and did a res change. PPM sits at 40 right now(very little nutes, GH flora trio) and will see if it makes a difference. First true set are still very small. I have always heard to start small and work your way up. 490-630 seems kinda high to start with if you are using RO water or in my case tap water with 0 ppm. Also, I bought a small heater that has a thermostat(started with a $15 one and it ranged from 66-85 degrees so i got one you can set temp. now stays 75-80).

Yes your plants will be very cold at those temps. In a DWC, it helps to get an aquarium water heater. For seedlings, I just use CFLs in a closed box and a thermometer. For a DWC it is a good idea to allow them to grow some roots in the water then lower the water level and cover the surface of the water under the roots with bubbles as much as you can. Lower the water level as the roots grow, them keep the roots 1/2 submerged with the upper 1/2 suspended in the air. It grows sick roots this way, not my preferred system but a nice experience
