NO, two gal of water is way too much. You wanna water them just till the soil is moist not dripping wet. I grew mine in 5 gal pots and I used about one gallon of water when they were real dry and crusty on the tops.
2 gallons won't kill your plants, but it's still not necessary to use that much. start out with a quart or so and then work up to a gallon. gallons makes it easy for measuring nutrients
right, 2 gal is 2 much to start a plant in, it will die, u do have 2 work up to it. i use gallons for easy way to measure nutes but dont use all of gallon on one plant. I was learned to water your plant not ur potter.
The soil should be warm and moist to start with. When you drop your cracked seed with taproot into the soil, use just a few tablespoons of water. Do this daily until germination is over (2 weeks). Then start watering with more, 24oz, 48oz, etc.
I am going to go against the grain here, I guess. I use five gallon pots when I do soil and I water until solution comes out of the bottom. I get rid of the water sitting in the tray with a shop vac and then let it dry out. It is my firm belief that letting your plants dry out a bit is a good thing. It forces the roots to expand in search of water and promotes a strong root system. I wait until the leaves start to droop a bit then i water until it starts to drain. That's my opinion. As was said earlier, it depends on the plant, not the size of the container.
