I am trying to get people to hear both sides, but you are saying not to water cure because it is not worth the effort. Now it may not be worth your effort, but others may feel differently. panties? I'm doing just fine thanks. Anyway, yes I was at one time interested in water curing. So I did it first with a very small amount of bud, and then a whole plant. So yes, I have tried it.
I have told people what the downsides are, and that those downsides are very big. So what is it that I am doing wrong here? I mean aside from having a different opinion than you ?
DO WHAT??!! My opinion is neutral. My preference is only what serves my purpose. If the purpose calls for air-cure then I air cure. If it calls for water cure then I water cure. My point is, what ever a very big downside for you is, may be a very small downside for someone else. I dont think you fully read my post when I made the grand mistake of quoting your thread. My bad man, I now know you are a pretty sensitive person that takes offense to constructive criticism, wont happen again.
If I can save some anonymous person out there from ruining ounces or pounds of perfectly good green, it was worth it.
I have never ruined any of my bud by water curing. But its obvious we agree to disagree, so its all good. Hopefully the other readers now have enough info to make their own decision and decide for them self, without being told straight up that it is a waste.

I'm still a bit on the fence myself because it isn't as smooth as I expected but the buzz is nice with less smoking. I think most of the people that are against water cure are the ones that have been growing the longest. I was talking to an old grower the other day and he had never heard of it. He didn't believe me.
I found that if you use at least 1 gallon of water per ounce of weed is about what it takes. Also, on the last day if the water still smells like shit its not done yet, maybe increase the amount of water. I soak it until there is no longer a smell.

I can always smell the chlorophyll in the water before I change it. But sounds like you are using more than enough water and that could be why you dont smell it. Soak it for another day or so, its not going to hurt it.

Wow this was a very informative thread, it was like listing to a political debate.
gonna have to try it for myself, i hear the people who are afraid of losing smell and bag appeal but all the matters to me is the high and how it smokes.... I dont grow for sale so everything i grow myself or a friend smokes. Not trying to offend anyone but i really don't see why there is such emotions when it comes to how to cure your bud....
Honestly do whats right for you, end of story. If you haven't tried you don't know, so thus i don't know. I am willing to try, and make an informed decision for myself. I think thats all that matters...

i haven't water cured any herb i've personally harvested, as i'm just starting the cultivation thing. but, i have water cured lbs of herb from my connect. it started as an experiment just to see what would happen. i remember i took a oz(mid grade) out of a lb, put it into a larger ziploc bag added some water put it in the refrigerator and let it sit for a day and a half. by the end of day one the bag appeal dramatically got better. i air dried that oz for a day. comparing that oz to the rest of the herb it came from was like night and day. the water cured turned a bright lime and the smoke was a lot smoother and better to smoke. my hypothesis is you should water cure your harvest if your a little off when it comes to flushing.

Water cured over night???? Never heard of less than 5 days. Experiments were done on OG and no difference between 5 to 7 days. Also never heard of a gallon of water to a oz. of bud??? Also never found I needed that much. Also the stuff does stink to the high heavens some times depending on the strain. I asked My wife (who does not smoke) to finish a cure for me. I had to go out west for a family funeral. She said it was the most vile smell she has ever smelled. I don't mind it but to some it is terrible. I like water cure but not exclusively.
Also a couple of Idea's for people want to try this Past pots work great as do Asparagus strainers work great also. Just need something heavy on top to keep the material submerged. That is the biggie it has to be totally submerged for the entire process and emptied and refilled every 24 hours. One last thing the better the water the better the product!!!
