Water "burned" leaves?

Hey All, While I have been growing for some years, I've hit something I'm very confused about. I've heard that water on your girls in direct sunlight will "burn" the leaves.
This year, I've added 5 overhead 1/2 gph misters to help cool down the area during our 100+ days. There are 3 heavy duty box fans, mounted 9' high, to move the mist around.
When this cooling system is on, I get about 10/12 degree drop in temp at ground level. I have noticed that several of the girls have a little wet "sheen" on their leaves, but NO beading water droplets. And they seem to absorb the wetness real fast. Upon close inspection in the evening, I cannot find any signs of a problem.
So, my ? would be, is it just water beads, acting as a magnifying glass that "burns" the leaves, or should I be watching for a prob. down the road?
Good luck & good grow.......BB

Keep watching...I have personally experienced burned leaves with the smallest of water beads. I no longer spray my plants.

With that much ventilation, I don't think you have much to worry about. From the sounds of it, it is absorbed/evaporated quickly? You should be okay. Even if you would get some tiny burns here and there, it's better than cooking your whole plant with those high temps, right? Just keep an eye on it, and you should be fine. :)

Thanks Jaw, I appreciate the input. (a little +rep for your effort). After I made this post, I went to Ask.com, and actually got a scientific answer. >>>> http://www.livescience.com/strangenews/water-drop-burn-leaves-100110.html

I'm going to stash this link somewhere for later retrieval, cause a lot of folks are pretty damned positive that water drops in the sun will cause your girls to spontaneously combust and become the biblical "Burning Bush"! LOL, a little over the top maybe, but you get the point. Wishing you Good luck & good grow.......BB

^Sweet, good link. I've always wondered about that, and aside from dried up salt spots from foliar feeds, or dried up pesticides, I've never seen any real proof on here, nor on any of my own grows. + rep, right back at ya. I'll add that bit of info, permanently, to my ever-expanding arsenal of knowledge.lol

Hey Guys, here's a little update. I've noticed some "speckles" on a couple of my indicas. My first thought was, "oh, shit, Spider Mites"!
Well, no, it's "water burn" from my mister/cooling system.
It seems that at least in MY garden, the sativas love the wet and NO sign of any problems. However, some indicas, are sensitive to sunshine and water beads and will show tiny "burn" specks on the exposed fan leaves. So far I'm OK with the minimal damage done, in exchange for lowering the temps dramaticaly. Below, I'm showing LA Woman and Blue Venom, (mostly indica), with a few spots, but the SSTD, (very sativa & catching most of the wet), shows completely clear....BB

Water evaporating from a leaf can cause a "burn" as well. The leaf quickly absorbs the moisture. The roots cannot support rapid evaporation, so what happens is, the leaf starts to evaporate the excess moisture, and the ips and edges turn up towards the light, trying to minimize exposure to the light causing the evaporation. While they technically don't get "burned", parts of the leaf can be sucked dry and the celluar structure dies, never to come back. This is my understanding of evaporation and burn from doing online research when I 'burned' my plants under a LED system.

In your case, I think lowering the temps 10-12 degrees on super hot days more than makes up for any potential small "burns".

What kind of water are you spraying them with? Maybe it isn't the water burning them, but stuff in the water

Holy shit, pic 2 shows the worst case of water burn, that I've ever seen.
Hi Jaw, that's the worst out there, it's a Blue Venom clone, that caught an awful lot of spray. LOL, it's been moved to a "drier" area.
It's a matter of keeping the indica's out of the direct wet. This has been a great learning process. Good luck & good grow.......BB

BTW rucca, I'm using "city" water through a DIY, PVC misting system. Our local water is pretty neutral, ph is around 6, and minimal minerals....BB
