Watch Subb Build His First Grow Box!

Alrighty, so I've been busy this weekend constructing my grow box.
So far I have just about everything I need (still a few things left) And I already started building it.

The box is 2' x 1.5 ' x 3'.
So far I've insulated and lined it with Mylar and setup my light mounts to hang.
Check it out so far:

Here is a better closeup of the PVC CFL light fixture (the pc fan is not mounted in the pic):

And here are my main plans:

So next I'm, going to try and tackle the exhaust, I'm still not 100% sure how I want to set it up. My plans probably won't work well because I'd like to have some extra insulated ducting for noise control.

Lights:
-Sun System 150w HPS for Flower
-Custom PVC CFL light fixture (holds 4x 26w CFLs) - 104 watts - for Veg
-2 side light fixtures (not pictured) holding 2x 26w CFLs each for an additional 104 watts total. Both Veg and Flower

Exhaust:
-Soler & Palau TD-125 inline fan
-Hoping to have insulated ducting in there somehow, maybe up along the left side

Next up:
-Construct side light/fan fixtures
-Construct carbon scrubber
-Get and install insulated ducting with carbon scrubber, mount this whole system
-Cut hole for power cord, test for light leaks; patch any leaks.

So what do you guys think so far? This is my first box, but I took my time with researching and planning, and I really think it paid off, at least so far. I haven't run into any major issues yet.

P.S. I just mounted those PVC pipes at the top of the box to hang the lights, a good cheapo method for doing this is: Take a soda cap, drill 2 holes in it. Drill 2 holes in your box, zip tie the cap to the wall, fit a 1/2" PVC pipe into these caps like shower curtain rods - works great! I cut little notches out of the tops so it's easier to slide the pipe in. It can be a pain to snap them into place, but once in, they aren't going anywhere. Sure beats another stop at home depot!

Be sure to check back!

looks legit man even though i would NEVER grow in that confined of a space EVER but I'm sure you are doing this for a reason because everyones situations call for different growing methods good luck - DNK

looks good man. I dig the cfl fixture with the fan attached, very creative. Have you looked into the scrog method, its a good way to maximize yeild in a confined space.

Thanks man. Yeah.. Micro/stealth was pretty much my only option as of now. It should work out ok, though, especially with that Soler & Palau exhaust fan. After this first grow, though, I may be able to go bigger, it all depends on my situation. I should be able to yield a nice little personal stash with this, though :) Can't wait!

Yes I plan on training the plant, most likely SCROG it as well. Thanks for the comments :)

actually, one of the main things I don't have all set is which strain to grow! I love me a good Sativa, even a Sativa/Indica (maybe slightly more Sativa?) - something that grows short and bushy and flowers fast. Something that is easy to train, SCROG, etc.
Basically, a really good "first grow" plant. Any suggestions on that?

while I also lean towards sativas in preference, you would be better off with an indica dom or a 50/50 cross in smaller spaces. sativas and dominates love to stretch out during flower and can quickly out grow a confined space. blue dream is a good strain lots of sativa effect to it but can be kept bushy and squat with good training

Awesome. Yeah I know about the sativa being more lanky, indica being more bushy. I've been looking at seed sites, though, and it looks like there are a lot of Sativa strains that "grows like Indica" - but I don't know how much I trust that.
50/50 mix would be perfect, too. Not saying I don't like Indica, just that if I had to choose, on MOST days I would choose Sativa. Thanks for that suggestion, I will definitely look into Blue Dream for sure! Sounds like what I need.

Try seedsman skunk n1. it bushes well and produces well with a sativa high. You will have to train it though and flower it early. It didn't stretch as much as my other sativa dominant strains and produced well. You should probably put into flower almost from seed in your space.

Cool I will look into this as well.
I was reading into the Blue Dream and, unfortunately, it's a clone-only strain, so I can't get seeds, nor do I live anywhere near Cali. Skunk n1 - I will check this out, too, thanks dude!

what the fuck pheno of blue dream are you talking about because i have grown 3 diff "blue dream" and all were very sativa like?
yes they are all sativa like, but they respond very well to topping and can be trained to stay squat and bushy, very good for people that like sativas, but dont have 10ft ceelings

I think training it is all part of the fun! I don't think I want an auto flower, though, the first few grows will be more of an experiment, and I look forward to playing with the plant

Yeah skunk #1 seems like a good choice from what I'm reading, that will definitely be a contender when I am about to start a grow, thanks for the suggestions guys

hey man, have you had ya box running yet ?? what were the temps doing ? what is the distance going to be between the base of the HPS and top of the buds during flowering ?

Nope it's not running yet, I just posted this yesterday. That is next on my list, though. I need to fix light leaks, setup my ventilation and check out temps.

Only problem is finding 5" insulated ducting.. I may have to order it online, and without my ventilation hooked up I won't have an accurate temp reading.
As for the HPS, it will probably be 6-12" away from the top of the plant.. it all depends on my temps, really. I will definitely be sure to post the results as soon as I have the chance to test them!
Thanks everyone!

quick sneak peak of the new CFL light fixture. Now holds 8 bulbs, there will be no side lighting.. just mylar and the scrog screen

Still probably going to trim down the excess PVC to save some room. I wish I could do something about the ugly wires on the sides.

Didn't have a chance to really mess with the ventilation today but I did get my 5" insulated ducting, so yay!

I just had an idea for a nice reflective vent hood - is it ok to use mylar or reflectix as a hood material? It should only be a couple inches away at the closest
